On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a hefty prize money of INR 131 crore for Team India after winning the T20 World Cup for the third time, a 1000% increase from the first time the Men in Blue won under as the BCCI Prize Money Distribution.

Meanwhile, the BCCI didn't explain how the prize money will be distributed among the players, coaching staff and the team management.

"The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future," the press release said while announcing the BCCI Prize Money Distribution.

How much will each player receive after winning T20 WC?

However, reports have begun to emerge explaining the mathematics behind the INR 131 crore in the BCCI Prize Money Distribution.

According to a report by the Hindu, each member of the 2026 T20 World Cup will receive INR 6 crore, which is 20% more than the amount players received when India last won the same silverware two years ago. Moreover, the remaining INR 41 crore will be distributed among the coaching staff and other support staff members.

"Each of the 15 players in the squad will receive ₹6 crore, while the remaining ₹41 crore will be distributed among the coaching staff and other support staff members," the report read.

How much money will Gautam Gambhir be awarded?

Interestingly, after the triumph in 2024, the head coach was awarded INR 5 crore, but Rahul Dravid declined it and accepted the same share as the other coaches received, i.e., INR 2.5 crore from the BCCI Prize Money Distribution. Although the then prize pool for the coaches and support stage was 50 crore, it has dipped by 18% from the last time.

Considering the BCCI offers the current head coach Gautam Gambhir the same as they are offering the players, he will likely bag INR 6 crore. This brings the total for the rest of the coaches and support staff to 35 crore.

It is unknown how much prize money Morne Morkel (bowling coach), Sitanshu Kotak (batting coach), T. Dilip (fielding coach), and Ryan ten Doeschate (assistant coach) receive. But it is worth noting that their predecessors were then awarded ₹2.5 crore each.

Moreover, ICC handed USD 2.63 million (approximately INR 25 crore) to India for winning the silverware.

Sanju Samson, Jasprit Bumrah headline in finals

In the big finale against New Zealand, the Indian top order came out all guns blazing. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson got off the blocks hyper-aggressively, adding 92 runs in the first six overs. The opening pair scored 98 runs for the first wicket, before Ishan Kishan took from where Abhishek left.

After a berserk batting display, India posted a Hercules score of 255/5, with Samson (89) hitting his third consecutive half-century in the T20 World Cup.

In the defence, the Indian bowlers never allowed the Kiwis to get into the chase as wickets kept tumbling. Jasprit Bumrah delivered his best bowling figures in T20Is, returning with 4/15 in his four overs.

Eventually, India won the big final by 96 runs, becoming the first side to defend a T20 World Cup and also the first side to win at home.
