Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain the centrepieces of the Indian unit as the World Cup 2027 approaches. Although the two senior statesmen have been getting injured since the IPL 2026, both of them will be the biggest X-Factors for the marquee event.

The 39-year-old opener is playing in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan, where he smacked 48 runs off 39 balls in the second match at Lucknow. Meanwhile, the Indian number 3 is missing the series due to a hamstring injury.

With the two legends in the twilight of their careers, there has been a long debate over whether they can last until the 2027 World Cup.

BCCI bridging gap between head coach, RoKo

Earlier, it was reported that communication between head coach Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli had stalled

To put all debates to rest, BCCI’s secretary Devajit Saikia has mentioned that the board and its stakeholders are on top of all things, and there are constant conversations between the coaches, players and the selectors.

"As the head of the board, we have a very well-knit team and a lot of experts. All stakeholders are taken on board. Whatever decisions are made involve the cricket committee, the selectors and all other stakeholders, including the support staff, the head coach and the players concerned. There are regular conversations taking place," BCCI’s secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI.

Furthermore, the BCCI secretary also reserved himself from letting out any details, particularly saying the interactions "should remain within the boardroom"

"For that reason, we do not need any special session of interaction. This is an ongoing process. Further, I do not think I should disclose anything before the media or the public because these are strategic discussions. I am not authorised to speak about them before the media," Devajit Saikia added.

"Secondly, these are matters that should remain within the boardroom."

Ishan Kishan could rival Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli

In the ongoing IND vs AFG, Rohit Sharma is answering his critics with a fine knock of 48 runs at Lucknow on Wednesday. However, a daddy innings is due for the former Indian captain.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, is reportedly set to be available for India’s next ODI assignment, a three-match series in England next month.

Having said that, the way Ishan Kishan has performed in the first two ODIs against Afghanistan, he has made a strong case for himself. His selection will be a massive headache for the national selectors when both Kohli and Hardik Pandya get back to the ODI fold.

India ODI squad for ENG to be picked soon

In other news, India's squad announcement for the three ODIs against England is speculated to be announced soon. It is learnt that Kohli, Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj could be picked for the upcoming tour.

The BCCI has already named the T20I squads for the tour of England and Ireland, where Shreyas Iyer will be leading India for the very first time.

After the final IND vs AFG ODI, the Men in Blue will fly out to the United Kingdom, where they are scheduled to begin with two T20Is in Ireland on June 26.
