The England team has been punished by the ICC. Both Ireland and England have named complete squads for their upcoming T20I series against India. Sunil Narine surpassed Dwayne Bravo to claim a huge T20 record.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, June 22.

Lorcan Tucker to lead Ireland against India

Cricket Ireland has named a 14-player Ireland squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series against India. The cricket board appointed Lorcan Tucker as new Ireland captain following the resignation of Paul Stirling.

The former skipper was also ruled out of the squad owing to his injury concern, alongside fellow injured players like Josh Little, Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy and Jordan Neill.

James Coles earn maiden call up in England T20I squad vs India

The ECB has also named a strong England squad for their upcoming five-match T20I challenge against the visiting Indian team in July.

Harry Brook will continue to lead the team, while Jos Buttler was retained despite his underwhelming performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup a couple of months ago.

The ECB named one uncapped star in the form of Sussex all-rounder James Coles. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton were both excluded from the squad owing to their respective injury concerns.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Lauren Bell win POTMs

Mushfiqur Rahim bagged the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of May 2026. The legendary Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter beat some stiff competition from Taijul Islam and Dipendra Singh Airee following his Test series heroics against Pakistan.

England fast bowler Lauren Bell also won the award, albeit under the women’s category, for decimating New Zealand and India batting line-ups throughout the month.

ICC punish England for Oval Test breach

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine of 50 percent of player’s match fees on England.

The council also penalised the English team by docking their 12 points from the 2025-27 ICC WTC cycle for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the second Test at The Oval.

England have so far accumulated just 38 points to be sitting seventh on the WTC standings. The Englishmen also lost the match by 253 runs to have the three-match series levelled with a Test to spare.

Sunil Narine achieves huge record in MLC 2026 for Los Angeles

Former West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine picked up two wickets against the Seattle Orcas in match six of the MLC 2026 season. Los Angeles Knight Riders ended up winning the match by 81 runs.

In the process, Narine also surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the second highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket with 632 wickets in 588 innings.
