The Pakistan cricket team failed to qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, despite playing all their matches in Sri Lanka and travelling the least among all competing nations.

Requiring to defeat Sri Lanka by 64 or more runs, the ‘Men in Green’ barely escaped with a five-run win in Pallekele after crashing to demoralizing defeats at the hands of India and England.

Following Pakistan’s shambolic exit from the Super 8 stage of the tournament, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB ordered a brutal punishment for the players. Earlier reports indicated that the board will be imposing a fine of 5 million Pakistani rupees on all players for failing to make it to the top four of the competition.

Former fast bowler and loudmouth expert Tanvir Ahmed has now accused Mohsin Naqvi of using the fine to be collected from Pakistan players to “pay the fees” of PSL cricketers for the upcoming 2026 season.

Tanvir Ahmed lays down huge accusation against PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi

While speaking on a Pakistan sports show, former fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed criticized the PCB for “collecting fines” from an under-performing team after their failure in reaching the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Ahmed laughingly criticized the board, stating that the PCB’s selection committee should have done a better job in selecting a better team in the first place.

The former cricketer also accused the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB of collecting fine from the players to pay the “salaries of PSL cricketers” in the upcoming 2026 season.

Pakistan’s topsy-turvy journey in T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan, emboldened by late-overs heroics of Faheem Ashraf, overcame a spirited Netherlands scare to start off the 2026 T20 World Cup with a thrilling win. Under the leadership of Salman Agha, the team also trounced USA and Namibia in the Group A stage of the competition.

However, the ‘Men in Green’ were blown away by an Ishan Kishan blitzkrieg in Colombo to finish second on the Group A points table.

Sharing a point with New Zealand in a rain-affected Super 8 match, Pakistan succumbed to a two-wicket defeat against a Harry Brook-led English side on February 24. The team also failed to defeat Sri Lanka by a desired margin of more than 64 runs to finish Group 2 at number three in the Super 8s, thus crashing out of the tournament’s semi-final race.

Impact of T20 World Cup 2026 drubbing on Bangladesh tour

The Pakistan cricket team is now slated to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series next week. Earlier this week, the PCB named a 15-player Pakistan squad for the tour.

Still lingering from the effects of post T20 World Cup 2026 trauma, the board dropped legendary batter Babar Azam and fellow underperforming star Saim Ayub from the squad.

The first ODI of the series will be played on March 11. All three matches of the short tour will be hosted by the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
