Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India squad for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand. In other news, India Women secured a comprehensive win over Zimbabwe Women.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Friday, October 16.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar added to India squad for IND vs WI 5th T20I

The BCCI selection committee has added experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Indian squad for the impending series-deciding fifth T20I match in Bengaluru. Kumar was added to the squad after regular paceman Arshdeep Singh sustained a nasty shoulder injury in the fourth T20I of the series earlier this week.

As of now, it remains to be seen if Arshdeep can attain full recovery before the all-important fifth T20I match on October 17.

Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill to lead in ODIs, Bumrah returns for NZ Tests

The BCCI has also named complete India squads for the upcoming ODI and Test series in New Zealand. While Shubman Gill will lead the side in the first three ODI matches, T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer will take over for the final two games in place of the Test-bound regular captain.

Legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and top-order batter Sai Sudharsan both returned to the Indian Test team for the series, while senior wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is still subject to fitness clearance.

Hasan Nawaz joins Desert Vipers for ILT20 2026

Pakistan middle-order batter Hasan Nawaz has joined the Desert Vipers franchise for the upcoming ILT20 2026 season. The cricketer was roped in by the franchise as a replacement of Aneurin Donald, who has been named in England squad for the tour of Australia.

Hasan now joins Babar Azam, Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah as another Pakistani player in the Desert Vipers squad this year.

Deepti Sharma and Niki Prasad win 1st T20I for India

India Women defeated Zimbabwe by four wickets in Raipur to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Deepti Sharma and debutant Niki Prasad forged a fighting 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket, after the hosts had slipped to a precarious 19-4 in the fourth over of their run-chase of 115 runs.

Deepti won the ‘Player of the Match’ for top-scoring in the game through her 37-ball knock of 49 runs with eight boundaries.

Shubman Gill is set to make his return to the Punjab team for their upcoming second match of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season. The cricketer missed the opening match of the tournament last week.
