In the latest development, the BCCI has announced India’s ODI squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour. Interestingly, two separate captains have been named by the board, with Shubman Gill leading in the first three matches and Shreyas Iyer in charge of the final two games.

The core of the team remains the same, with all the senior players included. However, some of the Test-bound players, including Shubman Gill, will only play the first three ODI matches, and several newcomers have been drafted for the last two matches.

(Note): Meanwhile, the BCCI has also revealed the Test squad for the New Zealand matches, and here are the list of players:

India Test squad vs New Zealand: Shubman Gill [C], Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul [VC], Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant [WK]*, Dhruv Jurel [WK], Ravindra Jadeja, Anshul Kamboj, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj

No Bumrah in ODIs, Prasidh Krishna subject to fitness

Prasidh Krishna, who sustained an injury during the ODI series against the West Indies, was ruled out of the matches midway, but he has been picked for the first three ODI games against the Kiwis.

However, his participation remains subject to fitness, as the pacer is currently working on his rehabilitation at the CoE.

On the other hand, as expected, the BCCI selectors have not picked star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the ODIs against New Zealand. Unlike Prasidh, Bumrah has no injury-related concerns, but the BCCI wants him to carefully manage his workload; and hence, he will only play the red-ball games.

Gaikwad retains spot despite Iyer available

Shreyas Iyer missed the West Indies ODI series as he was with the Asian Games squad. In his place, Ruturaj Gaikwad was given a chance to bat at number 4.

It was expected that with Iyer back for the New Zealand ODIs, Gaikwad might not find a place in the team; however, the selectors have kept him in the squad, considering India needs strengthening in the batting lineup.
