Bangladesh captain Litton Das has urged his batting teammates to take greater responsibility in a bid to overcome their past demons. The senior wicketkeeper-batter stated the same just a day before Bangladesh’s ODI tri-series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in the UAE.
The 32-year-old also cited Bangladesh’s recent ODI record against Afghanistan (in late 2025) and against Zimbabwe away from home just a couple of months ago.
Litton Das cautions Bangladesh teammates before tri-series
While speaking with the reporters in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh captain Litton Das urged his batting colleagues to take more “responsibility” by batting out 50-overs in ODI matches. The cricketer recalled the time when his team failed to bat out its overs against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in their previous away ODI series.
He said “As senior players, we have to take responsibility. We could not bat for 50 overs here (against Afghanistan in the ODIs) and we could not do it in Zimbabwe either. As a batting unit, our responsibility is to make sure that those of us batting in the top six or seven can finish the game.”
Litton Das also believes that his team can learn from its past mistakes and be more positive in their batting approach in the upcoming ODI tri-series in the UAE.
He explained “What has happened previously can help us prepare and we cannot keep focusing on the fact that we played badly before and will do so again. Our mindset has to remain positive, and we will try to play positively.”
How did Bangladesh fare in their last series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe
It is worth noting that Bangladesh’s last two ODI series away from home both occurred against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. While Bangladesh lost its three-match series to Afghanistan in the UAE back in October 2025 by a 0-3 margin, they also lost in Zimbabwe 1-2 in July this year.
Compatible to the claims of Litton Das, Bangladesh batters failed to bat out their 50 overs in five of the six matches spanning the two series, which even included dismal all-out totals of 109 and 93 in successive games against Afghanistan and a shambolic 116 in Harare.
Set to go up against the two teams in the upcoming ODI tri-series in the UAE, Bangladesh will hope to put their recent struggles behind them and deliver a far more composed batting performance, with Litton Das and his senior teammates expected to lead the charge.
