The Israel Iran air strikes war has now started affecting more than just the two nations involved. After fresh attacks and counter-attacks, tension in the Middle East has increased sharply. News of Dubai International Airport being attacked by Iran has created panic across global aviation, with safety concerns rising across major transit hubs.

Because of these war-like developments, many flights passing through the Gulf region have been delayed or cancelled. Several countries reviewed airspace access, and airlines were forced to change routes at short notice. Passengers were left waiting for updates as travel plans suddenly became uncertain for thousands across continents.

The impact of the Israel Iran air strikes war is now being felt in sports as well, especially around the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. With airspace restrictions in place, international teams finishing the tournament in India and Sri Lanka are facing travel challenges as what began as a military conflict has now disrupted global movement.

Zimbabwe Stranded After Finishing T20 World Cup Campaign in Delhi

Zimbabwe, who finished their T20 World Cup campaign on Sunday against South Africa in Delhi, have become the first team to face travel trouble due to the Israel-Iran air strikes. The squad was preparing to head home after their Super 8 match, but airspace closure in middle-east have forced them to remain in India for now.

Zimbabwe had planned to leave India in groups as reported by ESPN Cricinfo, with some members scheduled to depart as early as 4:30 AM on Monday and the rest later that day. The logistics people are now working to arrange alternative travel routes not only for Zimbabwe but also for other teams completing their campaigns in India and Sri Lanka.

Originally, the Zimbabwe players were booked on Emirates flights from Delhi to Dubai and then onward to Harare. However, those plans could not go ahead because of the ongoing airspace restrictions. Until further updates, Sikandar Raza and his men are currently booked to stay at their Delhi hotel until March 4.

The travel disruption caused by rising tensions in West Asia has not only affected teams but individual cricketers as well. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim and England’s Jonny Bairstow are among those facing uncertainty due to cancelled flights and sudden airspace restrictions, highlighting how deeply the crisis has impacted international movement.

Zimbabwe’s delayed return after finishing their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against South Africa in Delhi sums up the situation perfectly. Instead of flying home as planned, they remain in India, showing how the wider geopolitical crisis has unexpectedly disrupted the global cricket calendar.

While the crisis has not directly affected the matches themselves, the ICC admitted that the situation is challenging from a logistics point of view. In an official statement on Saturday, the governing body said a large number of players, team management, match officials, broadcast crews and event staff rely on Gulf transit hubs, especially Dubai (DXB), to travel home after completing their commitments at the tournament.
