Ishan Kishan bludgeoned 125 runs off just 79 balls against Afghanistan at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow in India’s second ODI of the series.

Clattering 14 boundaries and seven scorching sixes, the blistering middle-order batter notched up only the second century of his ODI career, and his first since whacking an epic 210 against Bangladesh more than three years ago.

However, during the Afghanistan run chase in the game, the 27-year-old suffered a nasty blow while fielding. The incident occurred during the 39th over of the Afghanistan innings, when the cricketer attempted to catch a pull shot from Rahmat Shah off the bowling of Arshdeep Singh.

While Ishan has since walked off the field, the latest injury scare now casts a doubt on his availability in the Indian team for the upcoming two-match T20I tour of Ireland.

Will Ishan Kishan travel to Ireland for T20I series?

As of now, the BCCI is yet to drop an update regarding the injury status of the blistering Indian wicketkeeper-batter. However, one can assume that the cricketer will attain full recovery soon and tour Ireland with the rest of his teammates for the upcoming two-match T20I series.

With nine days still remaining for India’s first away T20I against Ireland in Belfast, Ishan Kishan is expected to recover in time and remain available for selection, although the BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his condition before taking a final call on his participation in the series.

Ishan Kishan plunders records with epic 125

The 27-year-old bulldozed Afghanistan bowlers with a blistering 125 from just 79 balls in the second ODI of India’s three-match series. The innings, coupled with a regal 154 from captain Shubman Gill helped India mount 402 in 49.5 overs.

Kishan also shattered a huge MS Dhoni record in the process. The left-hander has now completed 1,000 runs in ODIs, doing so in just 26 innings. Surpassing MS Dhoni and KL Rahul, the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter is now the fourth on India’s all-time list in completing 1,000 ODI runs, in terms of number of innings.

Later in the game, Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets each as India bowlers folded up Afghanistan for just 232 in 44.3 overs. India won the match by 170 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
