Nat Sciver-Brunt ruled out of England matches [Source: AFP]
England T20 captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been officially ruled out of the next two matches in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026.
Brunt, who already suffered a tear to her left calf back in April 2026, was handed a massive blow after she again sustained a calf injury during England's Tuesday win over Ireland.
While playing the match, Nat Sciver-Brunt retired out on 48 in Southampton. The England and Wales Cricket Board shared an official statement later in the night, declaring that she would be ruled out for the next two group-stage matches as a precautionary measure regarding tightness in her calf.
Nat Sciver-Brunt's recent tryst with injuries
Nat Sciver-Brunt suffered a tear to her left calf while playing for the Blaze against Warwickshire in a domestic tournament back in April.
After that, the ECB announced that she would miss the entire ODI series against New Zealand in May.
That didn't draw the conclusion to Brunt's fate, as further scans revealed that she needed an extended rehabilitation period, which forced her to sit out all six bilateral T20I matches that England played against New Zealand and India.
Although she returned to the squad in time for warm-up matches against Australia and India in June, while playing against Ireland, she felt tightness in the same left calf and was retired out mid-match.
Charlie Dean To Take Over As Brunt Undergoes Scans
Nat has now undergone a scan on Wednesday, and further updates and assessments from the England medical team will be provided to determine how fit she will be even after being ruled out for the next two matches.
The ECB revealed that in the absence of Sciver-Brunt, off-spinner Charlie Dean took the helm as England captain in the Women's T20 World Cup match.

As England Women have won both their games at the T20 World Cup, the injury of captain Nat Sciver-Brunt comes as a blow for a confident team that is riding on success. Sciver-Brunt was in dominant form too before retiring out against Ireland in Sri Lanka.
Against Sri Lanka, Sciver-Brunt scored a 22-ball 46 and showed the same temperament against Ireland too, which now leaves her with an average of 94 and a strike rate of 159.32 from the two matches she played.
England In Trouble Without Nat
England will now have to manage without one of their most experienced and influential players during a crucial phase of the tournament.
Nat Sciver-Brunt's absence not only affects the batting unit but also removes a key leader from the field. Her performances in the opening matches highlighted her importance to the side, and the team will hope that the precautionary rest helps her recover fully before the knockout stages.
With Charlie Dean stepping into the leadership role and England already building momentum in the competition, the focus will now be on maintaining their winning run until their captain is available for selection again.
