Rohit Sharma is all set to grab the spotlight in India’s upcoming third ODI of the three-match series against England at Lord’s. What was earlier perceived to be the final international outing for the legendary opener was later rejected by none other than BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
It is worth noting that earlier this week, an explosive report claimed that Rohit will be announcing his retirement from international cricket after the series against England. The report further stated that the former Indian captain was making the decision since he was informed by the BCCI that he was no longer in their plans for next year’s 2027 World Cup.
With Saikia himself debunking the reports, the retirement chatter spread rapidly across the cricketing world. Just a day before the series-decider, England captain Harry Brook has now reacted to the news of a possible Rohit Sharma retirement this weekend in London.
Harry Brook hails Rohit amid latter’s retirement rumours
While speaking with the reporters during a pre-match press conference in London on Saturday, July 18, England captain Harry Brook was asked to give his take regarding the retirement rumours of legendary Indian opener Rohit Sharma.

Harry Brook responded by praising the former Indian skipper, saying, “I'm not sure what's been said about Rohit Sharma's retirement. He's been a phenomenal player for many years, and it's great to see him still involved in the game.”
Is Rohit really retiring from international cricket after 3rd ODI?
Amid rumours circulating around a possible Rohit Sharma retirement later this weekend, the legendary Indian opener himself has made no official statement regarding the matter. However, the 39-year-old reportedly invited his parents to catch the third ODI at Lord’s, thus fuelling speculations of his Team India exit among his fans and followers.
The entire retirement speculation itself stemmed from a particular Indian Express report, which stated the cricketer would be quitting the game after being informed by the BCCI that he was no longer in the plans for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia himself debunked the rumors, claiming the former Indian skipper will continue to play as long as he is in the scheme of things.
Rohit Sharma's form is a concern before series decider
Retirement chatter aside, Rohit’s form with the bat is one of the biggest areas of concern for the Indian cricket team in the ODI leg of this England tour.
The legendary opening batter has so far accrued just 37 runs in two innings of the series, at a dismal strike rate of 54.41. Even in the second ODI a couple of days ago in Cardiff, Sharma made just 26 off 47 balls as England secured a thrilling four-wicket win to level the series.
India and England will now collide in the series-deciding third ODI at Lord’s in London on Sunday, July 19, and the action will commence from 3:30 PM IST onwards.
