Dinesh Karthik, the batting coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has taken a huge dig at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in his latest quip. RCB and CSK share a huge rivalry, despite CSK being a five-time IPL champion and RCB being the current defending IPL champ.
This comes after Chennai Super Kings reportedly complained to the BCCI about the behavior of the DJ at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for playing a popular song that they deemed offensive. This happened during the RCB v CSK game on April 5, which was won by RCB.
RCB defeated CSK in the Southern Derby in Bengaluru
Notably, both teams clashed on April 5 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru score 250/3 in 20 overs. Phil Salt made 46 runs, Virat Kohli scored 28, and Devdutt Padikkal made 50.
However, the impetus to the RCB innings came from Rajat Patidar, who made 48* in 19 balls, while Tim David hammered 70* in 25 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 3 fours.
In response, CSK lost four of their top five batters for single-digit scores, with Sarfaraz Khan scoring 50 runs to stem the fall of wickets. However, the lower order contributed immensely, with Prashant Veer scoring 43 and Jamie Overton making 37 runs as CSK made 207 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by 43 runs.

CSK complains to the BCCI about the “Dosa, Idli” track being played by the DJ in Bengaluru
The DJ's music selection and remarks during Chennai Super Kings' away game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5 at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium prompted the team to file a complaint with the BCCI.
The CSK claims that it was inappropriate to play the song "Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney" prior to their innings. This song is a common background score for jokes about South Indian stereotypes.
“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
A top IPL official also confirmed receiving the complaint by CSK and stated: “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it.”
The song has a history and is frequently cited on social media and during CSK-RCB games. It was initially composed by musician Gana Appu.
Dinesh Karthik shows gratitude to the Bengaluru crowd and DJ for support to the RCB team
RCB batting coach Dinesh Karthik has shown gratitude towards the support the franchise has received at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and also named the DJ at the stadium, in a subtle dig at Chennai Super Kings for their complaint.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to do well in Bengaluru. Purely because of the crowd, the support, and the way RCB flags are waved all over and a very Hindu DJ as well,” Karthik stated in an episode of the RCB Diaries show.
