South African speedster Lungi Ngidi has shared an update about his condition after he suffered a serious injury during his team, Delhi Capitals (DC), match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 25, 2026, in Delhi.
Delhi Capitals (DC) had scored a record 264/2 thanks to an amazing 152* by KL Rahul, where he hit 16 fours and 8 sixes. He added 220 runs for the second wicket with Nitish Rana, who made 91 runs.
Punjab Kings chased down 264, creating a new world record
Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings had a huge task on their hand, as they were undefeated and had to chase down a record total to maintain that streak. And somehow, PBKS batters took on the challenge as Priyansh Arya made 43 in 17 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh made 76 in 26 balls.
One of the best innings in the IPL 2026 came from Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who hammered 7 sixes and 3 fours, making 71* in 36 balls. He received support from Naman Dhir and Shashan Singh, as PBKS created a new T20 record by chasing down 264, with 6 wickets in hand.
Lungi Ngidi suffers a serious head injury
Amidst the whole carnage by PBKS, Delhi pacer Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury. The third over of the run chase was when the incident happened. Axar Patel, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, bowled to Priyansh Arya, who produced a lofted shot into the outfield. Tracking the ball, Ngidi rushed back.
Ngidi stumbled and fell heavily backward while trying to make the catch. Without touching the ball, he struck the back of his head and neck on the turf, creating a concerning situation on the pitch.

Fans and players were immediately alarmed as Ngidi laid motionless. He was unable to lift his head, so medical personnel hurried in and placed a neck brace. For around fifteen minutes, the game was suspended.
Ngidi had to be rushed to a hospital as an ambulance rushed onto the field. Ngidi’s neck was secured in a neck brace before he was loaded into the ambulance and taken away to a nearby hospital.
Delhi's pacer was discharged in the evening after receiving medical care
Later in the evening, several news outlets like ANI and IANS revealed that Ngidi was discharged from BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital.
"Lungi Ngidi is doing well and has now returned to the DC team hotel in New Delhi. Him being sent back to the hotel after being discharged from the hospital is a positive indication of his recovery, and the franchise medical staff will continue to take good care of him,” sources told IANS.

Lungi Ngidi has given a huge update on his injury, and a fan shared his message on social media.
“Thank you for the messages, all good." Lungi Ngidi posted on his Instagram account, which was shared on social media.
Ngidi has played a significant role in the Delhi Capitals bowling attack prior to the injury. With an economy rate of 8.70 and a bowling average of 29.42, he has claimed seven wickets in seven games this season.
