BCCI to act on RR's protocol breach [Source: X, AFP]
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s local guardian at the Rajasthan Royals’ camp, Romi Bhinder, has been under the pump for the last week after he was seen using a mobile phone recently.
According to BCCI'S Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), it was a serious protocol breach for the RR team manager to carry the phone to the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) during the match time.
Subsequently, Bhinder was given a show-cause notice from the Anti-Corruption Unit, who were investigating the matter, and the BCCI is now likely to have reached its decision over the punishment. They could soon be officially announcing it via the official channels; nonetheless, the early feelings are positive from the franchise’s point of view.
BCCI set to announce sanctions for RR’s protocol breach
The said incident took place on April 11 during RR’s successful 202-run chase against the defending champions RCB in Guwahati. Following his blistering 78 off 26, obliterating the bowlers for 8 fours and 7 sixes, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was sitting next to Bhinder at the 10.5 over mark.
As the pair sat together, Bhinder casually took out his phone from his pocket, and the teenage sensation peeked at the screen for a moment. The incident caught a lot of attention, and the BCCI promised swift action over it, and Bhinder was sent a show-cause notice.
However, following the notice and subsequent reasoning given by the team manager, it was learned that Romi Bhinder had previously intimated the BCCI about his health concerns and that he needed to stay in constant communication with his doctor.
Hence, it is expected that no serious action will be taken against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Romi Bhinder, and the manager could get away with a minimal sanction, which could be a fine or a formal warning. The BCCI source told Cricbuzz that it does not look like a major violation on the face of it.

Romi Bhinder’s serious health issues put RR in jeopardy
Following the protocol breach in the Player and Match Official Area (PMOA), reports circulated that Bhinder, who lives in Nagpur, was in a life-threatening condition ahead of IPL 2026.
It was known that both his lungs collapsed, and he was hospitalised for about a month in Nagpur. Hence, he is advised to stay in touch with his doctors. Additionally, a team manager is allowed to use his mobile phone in the stadium, but not in the dugout.
Upon receiving the show-cause notice, where he needed to explain his actions within the next 48 hours, Bhinder and RR complied with the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit’s investigation; hence, they could be given just a minimal punishment.
