Punjab Kings rocked Mumbai Indians with the new ball early in match number 24 of the IPL 2026 season at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Batting first in front of their home crowd, Mumbai Indians first lost opening batter Ryan Rickelton to Arshdeep Singh in the third over of the match.
The very next delivery, the hosts also lost prolific number three and senior India batter Suryakumar Yadav, doing so for a first-ball duck to Arshdeep. Notably, Suryakumar’s latest failure with the bat also places him in a huge unwanted league of all-time Mumbai Indians batters with the highest number of ducks to their names.
Suryakumar Yadav surpasses Ambati Rayudu for most ducks
Suryakumar Yadav, who aggregated just 106 runs off four innings of the IPL 2026 season at a below par average of 26.50 prior to the ongoing game, was dismissed for a first-ball duck against Punjab Kings’ paceman Arshdeep Singh.

The senior India batter has now become only the third batter in the history of the Mumbai Indians franchise to register at least 10 ducks in IPL matches, joining the likes of former captains Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh in an unwanted list. Here is a list of some of the Mumbai Indians players with most ducks in IPL games.
Most Ducks for MI in IPL:

| Ambati Rayudu | 9 |
Overall, Suryakumar Yadav has registered 11 ducks in the IPL, which included one for the KKR franchise in the earlier phase of his career.
Who holds the overall record for most ducks in IPL?
While Suryakumar Yadav has now joined Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh among the leading duck-scorers for the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL, the Indian T20I skipper is not even close to the all-time unwanted record.
Hard-hitting Australian batter Glenn Maxwell, who has represented four different IPL franchises so far in his career, has accrued 19 ducks in his career. He is followed by fellow journeyman and former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik with 18 scoreless innings. Mumbai Indians legend Rohit Sharma falls third on the list, also with 18 ducks, albeit in just 271 innings in his IPL career.
Mumbai Indians overcome Punjab Kings new ball threat
Batting first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, hosts Mumbai Indians slipped to 12-2 in just 2.2 overs at one stage. The franchise lost opening batter Ryan Rickelton, and Yadav at number three in successive deliveries, with both falling to Punjab Kings elite fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

Rocked early in the powerplay, the hosts eventually attained recovery and raced to 48-2 at the end of the first six overs.
The match marks a must-win one for the Hardik Pandya-led side, considering they are currently on a trail of three successive defeats to fall to number nine on the IPL 2026 points table. Another defeat at this stage will significantly impact their playoffs ambitions.
