The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally responded to the controversy involving Riyan Parag, after a viral video appeared to show him vaping inside the dressing room. The incident took place during the IPL 2026 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 28.
The controversy began when broadcast cameras captured Riyan Parag sitting in the dressing room alongside teammates Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal during the 16th over of Rajasthan's chase.
The visuals appeared to show him using a vape device shortly after his dismissal. The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing criticism from fans.
BCCI breaks silence on Riyan Parag incident
According to reports, a BCCI official confirmed that Riyan Parag will be asked to explain his actions. “We will be seeking an explanation from Riyan on this issue, as vaping is not allowed. Depending on his explanation, the IPL will take further course of action,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.
Under BCCI guidelines, smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside IPL venues, except in designated areas. Beyond cricket regulations, India also enforces a strict ban on e-cigarettes under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

While no punishment has been officially announced yet, the matter is under internal review. The final decision will depend on Riyan Parag's explanation and the BCCI’s findings.
RR's endless controversy in IPL 2026
It is important to mention that this is the second time that RR has been in the controversy in the ongoing IPL 2026. Earlier, Romi Bhinder, team manager of Rajasthan Royals, was fined ₹1 lakh and issued a warning for violating league protocols by using a mobile phone inside the dugout.
The controversy began when Romi Bhinder was seen using his mobile phone during a match while seated in the dugout. According to the rules set by the BCCI, mobile phone use is strictly prohibited in certain areas, such as the dugout.
Adding to the concern, young RR batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was also seen sitting next to Bhinder and looking at the phone screen.
The matter was taken up by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, which monitors activities to ensure fair play and prevent corruption in cricket. The ACSU issued a show-cause notice to Bhinder, asking him to explain his actions within 48 hours.
Bhinder responded within the given deadline and submitted his explanation along with medical records.
After reviewing the case, the ACSU decided to impose a fine of ₹1 lakh on Bhinder and issued a formal warning, considering it his first offence. A report confirmed that the Rajasthan Royals had been officially informed of the decision.
RR's performance so far in IPL 2026
It is vital to note that Rajasthan Royals, under the captaincy of Riyan Parag, are currently third on the IPL 2026 points table. The team has played 9 matches, winning 6 and losing 3 at an NRR of +0.617. RR will next face Delhi Capitals on April 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
