In a major development, Bangladesh cricketers are set to benefit from new leadership under Tamim Iqbal. Soon after taking charge, the former Bangladesh captain began making important decisions to improve the system.
On April 7, the Bangladesh government made an important decision and appointed him as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This decision came after the previous board, led by Aminul Islam, was dissolved. As a result, Tamim now leads an 11-member ad-hoc committee that will manage cricket affairs in the country.
Tamim Iqbal becomes youngest president in BCB history
At the age of 37, Tamim Iqbal has become the youngest president in BCB history. Moreover, his committee includes experienced names such as former captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-cricketer Athar Ali Khan.
In addition, several other members like Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, and Syed Ibrahim Ahmed are part of the team. Therefore, the future looks more structured for Bangladesh cricketers.
Notably, Tamim Iqbal’s appointment followed recommendations from a five-member investigation committee. This group reviewed issues related to last year’s BCB elections. As a result, the government decided to bring in new leadership to improve transparency and efficiency. Consequently, Tamim stepped into the role with immediate responsibility.
Big boost for Bangladesh cricketers
Soon after taking charge, Tamim Iqbal made a major decision that focused on women’s cricket. Notably, the BCB increased match fees and salaries for women players significantly. This move came as a surprise to many, especially after Tamim learned about the very low earnings of players. For example, earlier, players received only BDT 1,000 per match in certain formats.
Now, the structure has improved greatly. Players will earn BDT 10,000 for T20 matches. Similarly, they will receive BDT 15,000 for 50-over games and BDT 20,000 for first-class matches.
In addition, the monthly salary for the top 36 women cricketers has increased from BDT 30,000 to BDT 40,000. Therefore, this step offers much-needed financial support and motivation.
Tamim also shared that this change is only a beginning. He explained that while the increase is helpful, more improvements are still needed in the future.

Salary increase for men’s domestic players
Along with Bangladesh women’s cricket, men’s domestic players also received a salary boost. Players in category A will now earn BDT 65,000 per month. Meanwhile, category B players will get BDT 50,000, and category C players will receive BDT 40,000. In addition, first-class match fees have increased from BDT 70,000 to BDT 100,000.
Tamim highlighted that there had been very little salary growth in recent years. Therefore, this change aims to ensure fair pay for players who work hard and contribute to the sport.
The new salary structure for both men and women will take effect from January 1, 2026. Furthermore, the BCB has assigned specific roles to all members of the ad-hoc committee. At the same time, the board is working to resolve ongoing issues between club teams and the BCB.
As a result, efforts are being made to organize the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in the coming weeks.
