In a significant development, Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The decision comes after the Bangladesh government dissolved the previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul.
It is important to note that Tamim Iqbal has become the youngest president (age 37) in the history of the board and will lead an 11-member ad-hoc committee.
This change was made after the recommendations of a five-member investigation committee that examined allegations surrounding the BCB elections held last October.
Reports also suggest that Bangladesh's issues related to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, involving disputes with the ICC and the BCCI, played a role in the leadership change.

Tamim Iqbal will head an 11-member ad hoc committee for the next three months, during which fresh elections are expected to be held. The committee includes notable figures such as Minhajul Abedin and Athar Ali Khan.
The main aim of the committee under Tamim Iqbal’s leadership will be to develop and rebuild the board’s image and ensure transparent governance.
Speaking after his appointment, Tamim emphasised the importance of fair elections and openness within the cricketing structure. He stated that creating a system that allows players, organisers, and officials to participate freely will be key to long-term development.
"Of course, I will participate in the elections. When there is a free and fair election, I will request everyone who is interested to participate. The board's cricketers, organizers, everyone should participate. We have to create that atmosphere where everyone can come and hold elections.
