Aminul Islam Bulbul, the former Bangladesh Cricket Board president, has sought help from the International Cricket Council, a day after his ouster from the administrative role. With ex-cricketer Tamim Iqbal currently holding the BCB president chair, Bulbul’s cry for help reached Jay Shah's ICC office seeking intervention.

For the unaware, there has been a regime change in BCB recently, with Tamim replacing Bulbul, who held the position for nearly one year. Bulbul’s removal was based on election rigging, malpractices, abuse of power and being the driving force behind the boycott of the T20 World Cup 2026 by Bangladesh.

Notably, Bulbul has denied all of the charges and allegations against him, stating that his removal is illegal, for which he sent a letter to the apex cricket body seeking help.

While the contents of the letter were not clearly revealed, it is understood that the ex-BCB president sought legal help from ICC for his unjust removal as the president, with Tamim Iqbal currently holding the interim president role.

ICC deserts Bulbul after BCB ouster

Although Bulbul formally sent a letter, the Jay Shah-led body discarded his plea, citing the audacity of the ex-administrator of seeking help from an organisation that he strongly acted against in the T20 World Cup 2026.

"It is surprising that the same BCB, which cited the Bangladesh government's instruction to not play in India as the reason for its non-participation in the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup in complete disregard of a binding Members Participation Agreement with the ICC, is now seeking protection from the ICC and its constitution from an enquiry by and directive of its government," an ICC Director said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Bulbul discards the new ad-hoc committee in BCB

Notably, earlier in the day, Aminul openly called out Jay Shah & Co. to intervene in the BCB proceedings, alleging the panel of investigation was illegal and illegitimate.

"We call upon the ICC to intervene immediately to protect the sanctity of our elected board. The "Ad-hoc Committee" is illegal. The probe report is illegal. The legitimacy of the October 6, 2025 election conducted by a neutral, three-member commission including a Supreme Court advocate and a senior CID officer cannot be questioned by any government body after the fact," Bulbul said.

"I unequivocally state that the report submitted on April 5, 2026, is a defective, whimsical, and legally untenable document that holds no standing in the eyes of the law or the constitution of the BCB," Aminul said in a statement.

After Bulbul’s removal as the president, the government dissolved the entire board to appoint a new 11-member ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal as the interim president.

The BCB and it’s recurring pattern of regime change

The history of leadership changes in the Bangladesh Cricket Board has been marked by a recurring pattern of government-led interventions.

Before Bulbul, Faruque Ahmed was removed by the National Sports Council following a no-confidence motion signed by fellow board directors, citing his poor performance during his nine-month tenure.

Prior to that, Nazmul Hassan Papon resigned following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024.

Hence, political interference in presidential removals has become a recurring occurrence in the Bangladesh Cricket Board, with the helm now in the hands of Tamim Iqbal.
