Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) played one of the most thrilling IPL contests on Wednesday at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium. Although the Ashish Nehra and Shubman Gill-led unit eventually won, the game went down to the wire.
After putting 210/4 runs on the board, GT were messy on the field. Some questionable bowling changes and fumbles on the field seemed usual in the second innings.
For DC, Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24) initially set the chase up, before KL Rahul took it deep with the highest score of the IPL 2026. David Miller and Vipraj Nigam's unreal hitting almost took them over the line, but the Proteas miscalculated and failed to finish off the game.
Ashish Nehra hurls abuse at Shubman Gill
On a dewy evening in Delhi, where the Gujarat fielders were struggling, skipper Shubman Gill made a mess as a fielder.
In the 16th over of the chase, Ashok Sharma nailed a yorker to Tristan Stubbs, who dug it out in the offside. Gill, at extra cover, charged on the ball and had an unnecessary direct hit at the striker's end with Rahul safely inside. The ball deflected off the stumps and ran down to the fence.

As DC bagged four unnecessary runs, replays showed the GT head coach, Ashish Nehra, hurling abuse at his captain for his foolishness. It gave fans grimmers of the infamous moment from 2005 when Ashish Nehra absused MS Dhoni for dropping a nick behind the stumps.

However, Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans redeemed themselves in the final minutes of the game as they won it by a slim margin of one run.
Shubman Gill gets mojo off his back in IPL 2026
After missing the last game due to a muscle spasm, Shubman Gill returned to lead his side in the DC vs GT. Batting first, as Gujarat lost Sai Sudharsan early, Gill and Jos Buttler staged a brilliant partnership for them.
The Englishman got off the blocks quite rapidly, taking on Mukesh Kumar and hitting his 600th six in T20 Cricket. The duo shared a 60-run partnership before Gill joined forces with Washington Sundar. The lefty-righty combination worked like a charm for GT, as they had a century-plus stand.
Shubman Gill scored his first half-century - 70 off 45 balls - of the season. As a result, Gujarat posted 210/4 on the board.
Unlucky David Miller fails to take DC over the line
In the chase, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul opened really nicely for the Capitals. The openers gave them a wild start of 76 runs, with Nissanka going gung-ho. However, he went down taking Prasidh Krishna.
Rahul, on the other hand, played a sedate hand despite the middle order collapsing at the other end against Rashid Khan. The experienced opener's 92-run knock took Delhi near the finish line, but he was dismissed in the 17th over.
Then, when David Miller and Vipraj Nigam were batting together, DC were in the box seat. They attack GT's premier bowler, Siraj, to bag 23 runs off him. In the final over, despite losing Nigam, Miller had the under his control. He smoked Prasidh Krishna for a 106-meter maximum, keeping two runs off two balls to win.
Then, he pulled a slower one from the bowler to deep square leg and denied a single. However, destiny had other plans, as Miller missed his pull shot on the final ball, and Kuldeep Yadav got run out at the striker’s end. With that, DC lost its first game of the season, and GT got off the mark in the IPL 2026 with the victory.
