The Bangladesh Women’s team struggled to get going against India after winning the toss and opting to bat first at Old Trafford in Manchester. Nigar Sultana and co. managed to aggregate just 136-8 from 20 overs in their penultimate Group 1 match of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Number five batter Sharmin Akhter, in particular, listed just 10 runs from 12 balls despite arriving to the crease in the second half of the innings. In a selfless act, the cricketer retired herself out in a bid to up the scoring rate as Bangladesh approached the slog-overs territory.
While newcomer Ritu Moni did provide some backend acceleration, her stay at the crease lasted just four deliveries as she was knocked over by Radha Yadav the following over.
Bangladesh Women suffer batting embarrassment vs India
Bangladesh Women’s middle-order batter Sharmin Akhter arrived to the crease in the 13th over of the innings after the fall of well-set number three Sobhana Mostary at 79-3. Sharmin started off her innings by working the gaps for singles or twos.
However, the 30-year-old struggled to hit boundaries, prompting her to ‘retire out’ at the end of the 18th over for just 10 runs from 12 balls.

Her replacement, number seven batter Ritu Moni, bludgeoned one boundary to get to eight runs from just three balls. However, Moni’s counterattack lasted just four deliveries as she was knocked over by Indian spinner Radha Yadav in the penultimate over of the innings.
Bangladesh chart 136-8, India gets off to a flier
Bangladesh batted first and charted just 136-8 from 20 overs. Opening batter Dilara Akter was dismissed by Renuka Singh Thakur in just the second over of the match.
Fellow opener Juairiya Ferdous top-scored in the innings with 33 runs from 31 balls, hitting five boundaries in the process. Captain Nigar Sultana also breached the 30-run mark, cracking 32 from 27 balls with four boundaries.
For India, world number one ranked bowler Shree Charani dismissed Shorna Akter and Nahida Akter in the final over to concede just 21 runs in her spell. Radha Yadav unfurled the spell of the innings with exceptional figures of 3-28.
Renuka Singh Thakur and Nandani Sharma also chipped in with a wicket each in the Bangladesh innings.
In response, Team India lost prolific opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana for just eight in the third over of the chase. However, Shafali Verma blasted a fiery half-century to get India off to a flier.

India raced to 85-2 around the halfway stage of the innings, courtesy of a blistering 34-ball 53 from Shafali Verma. The in-form opener was eventually dismissed by Nahida Akter.
At the time of publishing, both Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh were batting at the crease.
