India's newest sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is all set to take the next big step in his promising career.
The 15-year-old batting prodigy has earned his maiden call-up to India’s T20I squad after a string of remarkable performances in the IPL 2026.
With the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee naming Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the squads for the UK tour of Ireland and England, the youngster is now on the verge of fulfilling a dream shared by millions.
Ahead of his expected international debut, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received his first Team India jersey from the BCCI.
However, it was not just any jersey. The teenage star was handed the iconic No 3 shirt, a number that has previously been worn by several accomplished Indian cricketers across formats.
Let us take a look at the players who donned Jersey No. 3 before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Indian Stars Who Have Donned Jersey No 3 Before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Harbhajan Singh
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh was one of the earliest players to wear the No 3 jersey. Notably, he made his international debut against Australia in 1998 and went on to become one of India’s greatest spin bowlers. Throughout his career, Harbhajan represented India in all three formats of the game.
Notably, he played 103 Tests, 236 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 28 T20 Internationals (T20Is). During this period, he picked up 417 wickets in Tests, 269 wickets in ODIs, and 25 wickets in T20Is.
Moreover, Harbhajan was a key member of India’s winning squads in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
Suresh Raina
Another famous player to wear the No. 3 jersey was Suresh Raina. The UP star made his international debut in 2005 and soon became one of India’s most reliable white-ball cricketers.
Notably, Raina was known for his aggressive batting and ability to perform under pressure.
It is important to note that Raina played 226 ODIs, 78 T20Is, and 18 Tests for India. Furthermore, he was part of the Indian team that won 2011 ODI World Cup.
One of his milestone achievements was becoming the first Indian batter to score a century in all three formats of cricket. Interestingly, Raina would occasionally swap jersey numbers with fellow cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal.
Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is another respected Indian batter who has worn the No. 3 jersey. However, he has also played with the No. 27 jersey during his international career. While he mostly wore No. 27 in ODIs and T20Is, he often used No. 3 in Test cricket. In the IPL as well, Rahane is known for wearing the No. 3 jersey.
Notably, Rahane last played for India in 2023 against the West Indies. Throughout his career, he represented India in 90 ODIs, 85 Tests, and 20 T20Is.
Additionally, he scored 2,962 runs in ODIs, 5,077 runs in Tests, and 375 runs in T20Is.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Finally, Yuzvendra Chahal is another player who proudly wore the No. 3 jersey. The leg-spinner made his international debut in 2016 and became a key member of India’s white-ball teams. He is also known for wearing the same jersey number in the IPL.
Although Chahal last played for India in a T20I against the West Indies in 2023, he has enjoyed a successful international career. So far, he has represented India in 80 T20Is and 72 ODIs.
