Tom Latham and Devon Conway finally came good for New Zealand in the ongoing Test series against England. Both the openers racked up their respective centuries, and they did so while stitching an unbeaten 200+ run stand.

The Kiwi opener smacked his 17th hundred in the format, while it is the first instance in 22 years that a New Zealand captain has scored a Test century in England. Moreover, Conway has racked up his ninth Test ton.

The Blackcaps won the toss in the series decider, and are making the Ben Stokes-led England pay for preparing a flat track at Trent Bridge.

As both Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored their respective centuries, they became the first Kiwi opening pair to do so in England. The first men to achieve this milestone as a pair were India's Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Merchant at Manchester in 1936.

Apart from that, four Australian opening pairs have done so. Two South African pairs and a West Indies duo have also accomplished it.

They were already the most successful opening pair for the Blackcaps in Tests. Next behind them are Bruce Edgar and John Wright, who scored 1,655 runs in 56 matches.

Moreover, the left-handed opening duo holds the highest opening stand for New Zealand in Tests: 323 vs West Indies at Mount Maunganui, 2025. Among the highest stands for any wicket for the Kiwis, their partnership of 323 stands in the ninth position.
