Henriques recently parted ways with Australian cricket [Source: AFP]
In a shocking turn of events, the 39-year-old Australian all-rounder, Moises Henriques decided to switch allegiance from Australia to Portugal as the player will turn up for his birth nation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2028 qualifiers.
Henriques last played for Australia in 2021, and since then, he has been out of the reckoning as the selectors have preferred other players. With limited chances available to represent the Australian national team, the all-rounder decided to part ways with them, as Portugal has a gem of a player on their hands.
He represented Australia in 44 matches across formats, and while his international career was not the best, Henriques dominated in the Australian domestic circuit and won multiple titles.
Interestingly, he is not the only player who will play cricket for two different nations. Several other Australians have done it before, and players from other nations have also done it. In this piece, we list out all the cricketers who have represented two nations in this sport.

Prominent players who have switched nations
Henriques is one of the prominent players who have switched nations in search of better opportunities. Apart from him, another big Australian name who played for another country was Joe Burns, who went on to represent Italy.
Emilio Gay recently made his debut for England in the Test series against New Zealand, but interestingly, the left-handed batter also played for Italy before switching teams.
Tim David is wreaking havoc playing for Australia, but the explosive batter also represented Singapore before the middle-order batter decided to play for the dominant force in cricket, Australia.
A few years ago, another famous cricketer, Corey Anderson, who played for the Kiwis left the nation and went on to play for the USA. At one point in time, Anderson had the record for the fastest ODI hundred scored.
Mark Chapman, the Kiwi all-rounder has cemented his place in the national side, but before joining the New Zealand squad, he played for Hong Kong cricket.
Interestingly, several Indian players have also represented the Pakistan national team after the partition. One of the underrated stars of South African cricket, Roelof van der Merwe, moved to the Netherlands, and instantly became a star for the Dutch side.
How players become eligible to play for second team
It is not a simple process to switch teams, but it requires a proper process before one becomes eligible to play for a second team.
The rules state that players need to have a three-year period after their final international appearance to join an associate nation. Say for example in Henriques' case, he last played for Australia in 2021, and he became eligible to play for another nation in 2024.
