England's predicted XI Vs India for second T20I [Source: AFP]
The India vs England 1st T20I was marred by rain as the riveting contest was poised for a thrilling run-chase, but the rain god had some other plans, and the match got abandoned. England needed a tricky 190 runs to take a 1-0 lead, but even before their innings commenced, the contest was washed out.
Heading into the first T20I against the World Champions, India, England rested Jofra Archer due to workload management, and in his absence, the bowling attack looked toothless as the Indian batters had an enjoyable outing.
The England batters never got a chance to bat, and they’ll be eager to showcase their class in the second T20I match on Saturday. After a not-so-impressive performance in the first T20I, England could make a couple of changes for the second T20I, and here is their predicted XI.
England's playing XI for 2nd T20I Vs India, 2026
Openers and top order: Philip Salt, Jos Buttler(w), Harry Brook(c)
The fans at Chester-le-Street never got a chance to witness the Phil Salt-Jos Buttler mayhem as rain played the spoilsport. However, the weather conditions look better for the second T20I, and both Salt and Buttler will be eager to put on a show for the English fans.
Just like the first T20I, expect the surface to be batting-friendly, and Salt and Buttler have the tools to cause problems for the Indian bowling attack.
Harry Brook in recent T20I games has been successful batting at number 3, and the England skipper could once again be used at the same position as he’ll be itching to free his arms against the not-so-promising Indian bowling attack.
Middle-order and all-rounders: Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks
Bethell has blown hot and cold in recent matches for RCB and for England, but he loves to bat at number 4, and the stats reveal the story. Bethell has scored 258 runs in six innings at 4, with a strike rate of 179, and the last time he batted against India, he slammed a stunning century in the World Cup.
Tom Banton is one of England’s best hitters of spin-bowling, and the right-handed bowler will be tasked with taking on the likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi in the middle-overs.
Sam Curran and Will Jacks will be the two designated finishers for the Three Lions, and both batters have the capability to take down the attack in the blink of an eye. The pair can also chip in with the ball, a trait that could prove to be handy for England.
Bowlers: Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid
Liam Dawson went wicketless in the first T20I against India, and the wily spinner would hope that he can strike in the second T20I. Against someone like Tilak Varma, who has been struggling against spin, Dawson can be threatening.
England rested Jofra Archer for the first T20I due to workload management, and in his place, Luke Wood was included in the lineup. The left-arm seamer went for plenty as he conceded 35 runs in three overs. Hence, the team will be eager to bring back Archer to create havoc against the Indian batters.
Saqib Mahmood will be the second lead pacer, and he'll be oozing with confidence after his performance in the first T20I. Alongside him, Adil Rashid will be the lead spinner as he's going to hold the key for his side with the ball in hand.
