15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, despite being selected in India's T20I squad for the Ireland and England tour, has not yet made his international debut. His snub led to a wave of criticism, and now, the BCCI has come forward to address the matter.
Sooryavanshi won over the fans’ hearts when he scored 776 runs in the IPL 2026 season with a strike rate of over 200. He scored a century and multiple 90+ run knocks in must-win games for Rajasthan Royals.
BCCI vice-president reacts to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s snub
Naturally, fans were eager to see how Vaibhav Sooryavanshi translates his IPL success into international cricket. However, the supporters were left disappointed when India didn’t include the 15-year-old in the 2-game T20I series vs Ireland.
Not only that, but Sooryavanshi was even left out of the first T20I vs England. But amid such intense scrutiny, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla defended the selectors and coaching staff.
Talking to Times Now, he said picking Sooryavanshi in the squad itself shows the management rates him highly and that fans and critics should trust the selectors and coaches.
He added that online criticism and political commentary around team selection should stop and assured the fans that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will get his opportunity when the management believes the timing is right. In short, the BCCI is asking for patience rather than immediate changes.

How is the BCCI treating Sooryavanshi?
Having said that, while his selection debate escalates, the BCCI is leaving no stone unturned in creating a safe and nurturing environment for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Since he is just a 15-year-old underage teenager, the board has allowed his family to travel with him everywhere. Not only that, even Rajasthan Royals’ top management is going out of its way to take care of the family and ensure their needs are fulfilled.
With such special treatment, BCCI had made it clear that they value Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and his extraordinary talent a lot. And they are waiting just for the right time to unleash the pocket dynamite into international cricket.
Sanju Samson’s poor form is a blessing for Vaibhav
Interestingly, ahead of the second T20I against England, fans are optimistic about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s potential international debut. The reason is simply the poor form of Sanju Samson.
The opener scored 5 runs and a golden duck in the 2-game T20I series vs Ireland. Even against England, he was dismissed on 1 off 7 balls in the first T20I.
With his lean patch persisting, the fans are losing patience. They firmly demanded the inclusion of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the second game scheduled on July 4 at Manchester.
However, it remains to be seen if the Indian team management has lost faith in Sanju Samson or not, especially after he played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 title victory.
