Suspense around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's debut for India is growing every day, and England all-rounder and Rajasthan Royals star Sam Curran has now only added to that concern. Curran, who has been a pacifier for India in the 1st T20I against India, elaborated on his opinion about the 15-year-old.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named in the India vs England T20I series alongside the Ireland tour but is yet to make a debut in the format. The IPL 2025 breakout star continued his success in 2026, too, but remains doubtful of getting a shot in the Playing XI of India for the England series now.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Exceptional Form In And After IPL 2026
For a 15-year-old, smashing the balls out of the park isn’t something that happens regularly, and Vaibhav has now made it possible.
The Bihar-born had a massively successful IPL 2026 season where he bagged the Orange Cap for being the highest run-scorer in the tournament and also had the highest strike rate as a batter as well.
After IPL, Vaibhav featured in the Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka, where he bagged 211 runs at an average of 42.20. This striking form calls for his mega debut in England; however, the top-order puzzle has made him wait despite his being a superb player in English conditions.
Sam Curran Opines On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s England Tour
Nevertheless, Vaibhav’s Rajasthan Royals teammate, Sam Curran, who missed a chance to share the dressing room with him because of the IPL 2026 injury rule-out, has now opened up about the kid’s prospects in England.
Speaking to the reporters in a pre-match press conference, Curran was doubtful about Sooryavanshi’s prospects in the India vs England T20I series.
“Playing in England will be a different challenge for Vaibhav, but as an opposition player as well, you need to admire his talent; he is just 15 years old!” Curran said at the conference.

Why It Might Be Difficult For The RR Youngster To Play In England?
While Curran was subtle in his speech, in a way, English conditions are tougher than subcontinental conditions. The Indian pitches are known to be flat and heavily helpful for the batters, especially in the T20Is.
Meanwhile, England pitches are greener and assist pacers more on the pitch. The extra movement on the ground always troubles Asian country batters, and Curran predicted that might be the case for debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi too.
Sooryavanshi’s Record In England Conditions
Vaibhav managed to play both formats of the game at the youth level. In Youth Tests, he scored 90 runs at an average of 22.5 and a strike rate of 125.
Meanwhile, in Youth ODIs, Suryavanshi has amassed 355 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 174.02, underlining his impressive numbers in both red-ball and white-ball cricket.
Why India Should Think Of Vaibhav Instead Of Samson
While Suryavanshi might not get a chance in the top order, as underlined by batting coach Rahul Dravid and the team management, his debut could give India an advantage on foreign soil alongside Abhishek Sharma.
Notably, Abhishek Sharma played a breathtaking knock of 59 off 24 balls in the first T20I against England, which was abandoned due to rain.
Alongside Abhishek, Vaibhav's aggressive batting, replacing the struggling Sanju Samson, could further put India in a strong position and strengthen their chances of winning against England.
