The Pakistan Women’s cricket team slumped to its second successive defeat in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, this time against South Africa in Birmingham on June 17. Riding on a one-woman show from captain and all-rounder Fatima Sana, lack of assistance from others allowed the Proteas to sneak in a thrilling two-wicket win with more than three overs to spare.

With two crushing defeats in two games, the ‘Women in Green’ now occupy fifth position in the six-team Group 1 points table. Here, we take a look at Pakistan’s semifinal qualification scenario after their latest setback against South Africa.

It is worth noting that the Pakistan Women’s team is yet to go past the opening round of a T20 World Cup.

The race for a spot in the semifinals of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is also becoming increasingly difficult for Pakistan, with the team now needing a near-perfect finish in their remaining group-stage matches while also relying on favourable results elsewhere.

For starters, the ‘Women in Green’ need to win each of their remaining three fixtures to get to six points at the end of the Group stage of the tournament.

Moreover, Fatima Sana and co. also need to win each of those matches with convincing margins in a bid to enhance their dwindling NRR of -2.263.

The Pakistan Women’s team also need a slew of certain external results to go their way, like current table-toppers India and second-placed Australia losing their remaining three fixtures to remain stranded at four points.

Pakistan, however, can afford either India or Australia to win at least one more match, if South Africa finish below six points. However, none of that will matter if Pakistan records one more defeat at any stage in the remainder of the competition.

The Pakistan Women’s team, under Fatima Sana, has so far faced arch-rivals India Women and a strong South African unit in the ongoing 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England

As per the schedule, the ‘Women in Green’ still have three more matches left in the bank, thus giving them an opportunity to garner a maximum of six points.

However, one of those matches is against Australia, a near-invincible team in Women’s World Cup history regardless of the format. Here is a look at Pakistan’s remaining fixtures this 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

So far, Pakistan’s entire T20 World Cup 2026 campaign has been single-handedly helmed by team captain Fatima Sana

The 24-year-old has not only emerged as Pakistan’s highest run-maker in the tournament so far, but has also taken the highest number of wickets among all her teammates. With the bat, Sana has scored 55 runs in two innings, which including a fighting 55*-run knock against South Africa.

She also picked up a three-wicket haul in the same game to record an exceptional all-round spectacle, thus extending her tally to five wickets in two innings this competition.
