Pakistan had a woeful start in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 under the leadership of Fatima Sana. The Women in Green suffered a 64-run defeat against arch-rivals India, getting bundled out for 106 after coming to defend 171.
After that, South Africa handed them a two-wicket victory, as they could only manage 126/9 with the bat, and the Laura Wolvaardt-led side got the job done with 16.5 overs to spare.
Fatima Sana Did Her Part, But Others Could Not
However, Fatima Sana did her part for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa Women. Whether it was with the bat in hand or with the ball in hand, Fatima did it with perfection.
In the process, she achieved a remarkable feat, something no other captain did it in the past in the history of T20 World Cup 2026.
Playing against South Africa, Pakistan were 33/6 and 45/7 at one point. Fatima revived the team single-handedly, holding the fort from one end in a mature 38-ball 55.
She smashed six fours and two sixes to take Pakistan to a respectable 126/9. In reply, coming to bowl, Sana took 3/16 off her 2.5 overs in the same match. However, it was not enough for Pakistan to defend the total.

With that, Sana became the first-ever captain in the Women’s T20 World Cup to have 50 or more runs and three or more wickets. There are three players – Hayley Matthews, Sune Luus and Shafali Verma – who have done the same, but not as a captain.
Pakistan Already In Danger In T20 World Cup 2026
There are 12 teams in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, of which six teams were divided into two groups. From there, two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
With the heavyweights likes of India, Australia, and South Africa in Group A, Pakistan are already a step away from elimination in the T20 World Cup 2026 after back-to-back defeats in the ongoing edition. They are currently sitting fifth on the chart, only above the Netherlands, who are playing the competition for the first time.
Pakistan will next play Bangladesh, Australia and the Netherlands on June 20, June 23 and June 27, respectively.
