The BCCI is currently grooming the 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to serve India at the highest level for many years.
Currently, the Bihar-born is with the India A squad for the Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, although he has not been his usual flawless self.
Soon after the Tri-Series involving Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, Sooryavanshi will take the flight to the United Kingdom to join the senior Indian unit. The left-handed opening sensation has earned his maiden India call-up for the T20Is against Ireland & England, as well as the Asian Games 2026.
BCCI reveals why it allowed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's parents to travel
Ahead of the tour to Sri Lanka, it was reported that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be assisted by his parents. They will also be travelling to the UK with the teenager. However, the reason behind the move was never disclosed.
While talking to PTI, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has revealed the real reason behind the board's move. He compared the child prodigy to the great Sachin Tendulkar's journey, which began at the tender age of 16 in 1989.
"You see, not all national teams at the senior level have a 14 or 15-year-old in their squad. After many decades, we have someone like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. At one point in time, it was Sachin Tendulkar who made it to the national team at such a young age," the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI.
Furthermore, Saikia said that Sooryavanshi's parents accompanying him would make his life easy in a dressing room full of seniors.

"When such a young kid is part of the senior team, there are obviously a lot of issues that can crop up. Therefore, to make him comfortable and help him get used to an adult environment, where all the other players are above 18 years of age, and the team management members are also adults, we felt it would be helpful," Devajit Saikia added.
"In that situation, allowing his parents to accompany him can make things easier, both for the kid and for the parents. We are doing this because we believe it will ease a lot of issues as far as Vaibhav is concerned."
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's altercation with SL-A players
In other news, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in an infamous altercation with Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage during the reverse fixture between the teams during the Tri-Series 2026.
Reportedly, the 15-year-old was sledged consistently throughout his two outings against Sri Lanka A, which resulted in an outburst after the hosts defeated India A in the Super Over on Monday.
The match referee reprimanded Halambage in the aftermath, while no charges were taken against Sooryavanshi.
The board, however, asked its players, especially the teenager, to concentrate on their game rather than getting distracted by any collateral issues.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's performances in Tri-Series
In four innings, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hasn't done anything noteworthy. So far, he has scored just 117 runs at an average of under 30, with a strike rate of 153.95 and a best score of 44 against Afghanistan A.
The Tilak Varma-led India A will hope the swashbuckling southpaw ends the tournament on a high, although they have yet to qualify for the tournament finale, which would depend on the SL-A vs AFG-A fixture.
The Tri-Series 2026 final match is scheduled to be played at Dambulla on Sunday (June 21).
