On the other hand, top names felt the pressure of their price tags and had an underwhelming campaign. Therefore, this article will shed light on how the costliest buys of each team performed in IPL 2026.

Every IPL Team's Costliest Buy Performance In IPL 2026

Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Venkatesh Iyer

For RCB, Venkatesh Iyer was their top pick in IPL 2026 and paid a whopping sum of 7 crores. It was a big gamble because the southpaw was fresh off a horific season with KKR in IPL 2025.

Iyer was not in RCB's scheme of things early on in the season, but injuries to Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell forced the management to bring Iyer in the playing XI. The gamble paid off as the southpaw scored 209 runs in 6 innings.

Iyer averaged 52.25 with a strike-rate of 186.61. Iyer's strike-rate set the platform RCB and he scored a quickfire 32 (16) in the final.

Rating - 8/10

Gujarat Titans - Jason Holder

For Gujarat Titans, Jason Holder was their top pick and the Shubman Gill-led side too paid 7 crores at the auction table.  Similar to Venkatesh, Jason Holder also spent the first half of IPL 2026 on bench.

Holder played 11 matches in IPL 2026 and performed more with the ball than the bat. He amassed 65 runs, averaging 13.00. The 34-year-old was brilliant with the ball and took 17 wickets in 11 innings.

Rating - 7.5/10

Sunrisers Hyderabad - Liam Livingstone

Sunrisers Hyderabad went all in for Liam Livignstone at the auction table. The English star earned a whopping 13 crores for IPL 2026. However, he was the worst-performing top-picks in the IPL auction.

Notably, Livingstone played just 2 matches for the Men in Orange and were shown the door following that. The 32-year-old scored just 15 runs in 2 innings, averaging 7.50. Further, he didn't bowl a solitary ball.

Rating - 0.5/10

Rajasthan Royals - Ravi Bishnoi

For Rajasthan Royals, they bought the right-arm spinner for 7.20 crores. Bishnoi was brilliant for the Riyan Parag-led side and even held the purple cap for a brief period. The 25-year-old took 11 wickets in 9 innings.

Bishnoi picked 9 wickets in fist four innings, but then saw a dip in form. He was eventually replaced by Yash Punja in the team.

Rating - 6.5/10

Punjab Kings - Ben Dwarshuis

For Punjab Kings, Ben Dwarshuis didn't get enough game time to prove his mettle. The 4.4 crore buy was asked to show his talent in one match in IPL 2026 where he gave away 51 runs in four overs and took a solitary wicket.

Rating - 1/10

Chennai Super Kings - Kartik Sharma, Prashant Veer

For CSK, they banked on youngsters at the auction table and splurged 14.20 crores each for Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. Out of the two, only Kartik Sharma was able to leave a mark.

Talking about Kartik, the 20-year-old scored 295 runs in 11 innings, averaging 32.78. He had a strike-rate of 136.57 and turned out to be a great middle-order batter for the Men in Yellow. Kartik slammed two fifty-plus scores.

Rating - 7/10

For Prashant Veer, he played 5 innings and amassed just 90 runs, with a strike-rate of 134.33. With the ball, Ruturaj Gaikwad asked him to roll his arms in a solitary game, where he went wicketless in his two overs.

Rating - 4.5/10

Delhi Capitals - Auqib Nabi

Delhi Capitals splurged 8.4 crores on J&K superstar Auqib Nabi. However, the right-arm seamer failed to replicate his successful domestic stint in IPL 2026. In the recently concluded season, the 29-year-old played 5 innings and is still awaiting his first wicket.

In 5 matches, Auqib went wicketless and gave away an economy of 11.46. He had one valuable contribution with the bat where he scored a six against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala.

Rating - 2/10

Kolkata Knight Riders - Cameron Green

All eyes were on Cameron Green for IPL 2026 as the Australia all-rounder earned 25.20 crores at the auction, becoming the most-expensive overses player in the history of the league. However, the 26-year-old failed to justifty his price tag.

Cameron Green failed to carry his team, a job which Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did for RR. With the bat, Green averaged 32.20 and scored just 322 runs in 14 innings. Also, with the ball, Green only managed to pick 7 wickets in 10 innings, with an economy of 10.64.

Rating - 5/10

Mumbai Indians - Quinton de Kock/ Jasprit Bumrah

For Mumbai Indians, their top-pick was Quinton de Kock for 1 crores. Therefore, its better to compare MI's top-retention, which was Jasprit Bumrah, who earns 18 crores playing for the five-time winners.

It was a disastrous campaign for the right-arm seamer, who took just 4 wickets in 13 innings and was the primary reason behind MI's unsuccessul IPL season.

Rating - 2/10

Lucknow Super Giants - Josh Inglis

Interestingly, before the start of IPL 2026, Inglis had made it clear that he will be available for just a few games because of his wedding. It was expected for Inglis to go unsold, but LSG splurged 8.60 crores to avail his service.

LSG eventually finished 10th on the table, but Inglis was superb. The 31-year-old slammed 266 runs in 5 innings, averaging 53.20. He had a strike-rate of 186.01 and totally justified his price tag.
