The RCB dressing room was filled with laughter and joy after they beat GT in the IPL 2026 final to lift their second title in a row. However, amid the celebrations, Tim David put the management in a spot by raising questions about a teammate’s contribution.

Prior to the season, RCB retained their core squad that won the franchise’s maiden IPL trophy in 2025. The same unit once again performed collectively to defend their title in 2026.

However, one particular player’s contribution was questioned even after the victory in the final.

Tim David throws shade at Jacob Bethell

That being said, during the victory celebration speech, RCB director of cricket Mo Bobat mentioned each player for their valuable contribution to the team’s victory campaign.

Interestingly, he also gave a shoutout to Jacob Bethell, who was not present with the squad due to an injury. However, Tim David didn’t appreciate it as he questioned Bethell’s contribution.

Watch the video below:

While David’s dig was passed off as a joke, his questions were valid. After Phil Salt’s finger injury, Bethell opened the innings for RCB in 7 games but scored just 96 runs at an average of 13.71.

Eventually, he had to be replaced as Venkatesh Iyer was chosen as the opening partner for stalwart Virat Kohli.

Why did Jacob Bethell leave the RCB camp?

Not only that, days before the IPL 2026 playoffs, Jacob Bethell sustained a finger injury during RCB's away match against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. The injury turned out to be serious, and he was eventually ruled out of the season.

Bethell then left the RCB camp immediately to report back to England, where he underwent medical assessment before England's Test series against New Zealand.

That being said, after a series of assessments, England believe the injury is not serious enough to rule him out of the first Test, which begins on June 4. If declared fit, Bethell will bat at No. 3 against New Zealand and might play his first home Test in that role.

Tim David’s contribution in IPL 2026 for RCB

While Jacob Bethell had an awful run in IPL 2026, Tim David had the opposite experience. In 15 innings that he played for RCB this year, he scored 305 runs at a strike rate of 188.27.

David scored a half-century as well and also smashed 23 sixes. His finishing skills consistently helped RCB achieve high totals.

Overall, RCB had a complete campaign in IPL 2026 as almost every player executed their designated role to perfection. A complete team performance is what sustains a team in such a long and competitive tournament.

The lack of overreliance on a couple of players is what helped RCB thrive throughout the season and win their second IPL title in a row.
