The T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium will go down as an all-time classic, but for England, it ended their time in the tournament. In a run-fest that saw 499 runs being scored, Harry Brook’s men fell painfully short of India's 253, losing by just 7 runs.

The “new era” under captain Harry Brook, England’s path to the semi-finals could be defined by resilience. On several occasions, they clawed their way back from difficult situations to secure victories, including dramatic finishes against Nepal and Pakistan, while also showing composure in a tense chase against New Zealand to remain unbeaten in the Super 8 stage.

However, the failure against India underscored their inability to absorb the big-match pressure. The collapse of senior stalwarts and a bowling attack that leaked runs in the first innings proved their undoing.

On that note, here are the player ratings for England’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

England Player Ratings for T20 World Cup 2026

Top Order

Phil Salt - 3/10

Opener Phil Salt was selected as the primary engine room for England’s aggressive starts. However, Phil Salt had a dismal campaign, and the only highlight was his 62 against Sri Lanka.

Moreover, his dismissal in the semi-final (20 off 12) came just as he was beginning to look dangerous, leaving a massive workload for the middle order.

During the T20 World Cup 2026, Phil Salt amassed only 130 runs across 8 innings at an average of 16.25 and a strike rate of 158.54, with a top score of 62 and a total of 13 sixes.

Jos Buttler - 2/10

A harrowing tournament for the former captain. Jos Buttler looked a shadow of himself, managing only 87 runs across the entire tournament with an average of 10.88.

Jos Buttler's streak of five consecutive single-digit scores, including a duck against New Zealand, put immense pressure on the top order. While his experience was valued, his lack of runs was England's biggest handicap.

In the T20 World Cup 2026, Jos Buttler endured a difficult campaign, scoring 87 runs in 8 innings at a disappointing average of 10.88 and a strike rate of 116.00, with a top score of 26.

Will Jacks - 8.5/10

One of the breakout stars of the tournament. Will Jacks wasn't just a threat with the bat; his off-spin became a tactical masterstroke for Brook. He picked up four Player of the Match awards and provided the vital balance England needed in subcontinental conditions. His quick-fire 30s and 40s consistently gave England the momentum.

Will Jacks was a model of explosive consistency in the lower-middle order, finishing the tournament with 226 runs at a staggering average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 176.56, remaining unbeaten in half of his eight innings. Adding to his all-round contribution, Will Jacks picked up 9 wickets in the tournament.

Middle Order

Harry Brook (c) - 8/10

In his first major tournament as captain, Brook led from the front with remarkable maturity. His scintillating 100 off 51 balls against Pakistan to secure a Super 8s win was the highlight of England's campaign. While his dropped catch of Sanju Samson in the semi-final proved costly, his tactical flexibility and personal form ushered in a promising new era.

During the T20 World Cup 2026, England captain Harry Brook led his side with 235 runs across 8 innings, maintaining a robust average of 29.38 and a strike rate of 159.86, highlighted by a magnificent century (100 off 51 balls) vs Pakistan.

Jacob Bethell - 8/10

The "find" of the T20 World Cup 2026. At just 22, Bethell played the innings of his life in the semi-final, smashing 105 off 48 balls to bring England within touching distance of a record 254-run chase.

Before the semis, Bethell had average stats in the tournament, but his fearless ball-striking against spin and ice-cool temperament vs India made him England's highest-rated performer in the knockouts.

Jacob Bethell emerged as England's breakout star, amassing 280 runs across 8 innings at an average of 35.00 and a strike rate of 152.17, headlined by a breathtaking 105 off 48 balls in the semi-final against India.

Tom Banton - 6.5/10

Often tasked with the "floater" role, Banton, too, had a mediocre World Cup. In a few of his innings, his ability to manipulate the field and score in unorthodox areas provided England with a different dimension, though he lacked a "statement" innings in the latter stages.

In the 2026 T20 World Cup, Tom Banton contributed 155 runs across 8 innings for England, finishing with an average of 22.14 and a strike rate of 137.17, highlighted by an unbeaten 63* against Scotland.

All-Rounders

Sam Curran - 7/10

A mixed bag for the 2022 hero. Curran was useful with the ball, particularly in the Powerplay (1/33 against Scotland), and his death bowling (1/27) impressed against Nepal. But all of his bowling was found wanting against India’s power hitters. His batting contributions were steady but lacked the explosive finish he is known for.

Throughout the ICC event, Sam Curran operated as a key all-rounder for England, scoring 167 runs in 8 innings at an average of 23.86 and a strike rate of 120.14, while also claiming 6 wickets with the ball at an economy of 9.46, including a tournament-best spell of 3/22 against Italy.

Liam Dawson - 7/10

The veteran spinner was a tactical anchor, often bowling the tough overs in the Powerplay and middle phase. He was instrumental in keeping the run rate down during the group stages, though, like many others, he found the Wankhede deck in the semi-final difficult to contain.

Early in the tournament, Liam Dawson proved to be a vital source of control for England, claiming 10 wickets across 8 innings at an average of 20.90 and a steady economy rate of 7.74, highlighted by a standout match-winning spell of 3/24 against Pakistan.

Adil Rashid - 7.5/10

Usually England's "go-to" man for breakthroughs, Rashid had a quiet tournament by his standards. While he provided control, he struggled to pick up the volume of wickets England needed to break partnerships in the Super 8s and the semi-final.

In the T20 World Cup 2026, Adil Rashid remained a central figure in England's spin attack, finishing the tournament with 13 wickets in 8 innings at an average of 19.23 and an economy rate of 8.15, highlighted by a clinical spell of 3/36 against Scotland.

Bowlers

Jofra Archer - 6.5/10

Archer's tournament was a rollercoaster. He reached the milestone of 50 T20I wickets and was statistically the most dangerous Powerplay bowler (8 wickets in the first six overs). It is worth noting that the ‘scary’ Archer went for 0/42 in his 3 overs against NEPAL.

Moreover, he was taken to the cleaners in the semi-final by Sanju Samson, conceding 61 runs in his 4 overs, a performance that ultimately proved the difference.

Jofra Archer spearheaded England's pace attack by claiming 11 wickets across 8 innings at an average of 26.00, though he found it difficult to contain runs at the Wankhede Stadium, finishing with an overall economy rate of 9.53.

Rehan Ahmed - 7/10

The young leg-spinner showed immense heart playing a solitary game in the tournament. During the tense Super 8 chase against New Zealand, his cameo with the bat (19* off 7) helped seal the win. With the ball, he showed great bravery in tossing it up, though he occasionally suffered from inconsistency, concluding with the bowling figures of 2/28.

Josh Tongue - */10

With the likes of Jof Archer and Sam Curran in the mix, Josh Tongue did not get any opportunity to play in the T20 World Cup 2026.
