India delivered a commanding performance in T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final, defeating England by 7 runs on Thursday, March 5th at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

With a powerful batting performance backed by some world-class death bowling, India outclassed England in a high-energy clash, securing their spot in the final and reaffirming their title defense.

Here, we take a look at the complete highlights of the semi-final between India and England in T20 World Cup 2026, as the action unfolded in Mumbai.

Sanju Samson Continues to Soar, Leads India’s Batting Carnage

After being asked to bat first, India piled up a massive 253 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson, the hero from the last game, once again led the charge with a stunning 89 off 42 balls, setting the tone early. Despite losing Abhishek Sharma to Will Jacks, India stayed aggressive from the start.

Samson launched a fierce counterattack alongside Ishan Kishan, propelling India to 67 for 1 at the end of the Powerplay. England dropped him early and responded with more spin after the powerplay, only for Samson to dismantle it, racing to a commanding half-century.

Adil Rashid did remove Ishan Kishan inside a couple of tidy overs, offering England brief hope, but India promoted Shivam Dube to number four, and the left-hander attacked the leg-spinner with some of the biggest sixes, keeping the scoring rate high and pushing India towards a massive total.

Closing in on a deserved century, Sanju Samson eventually fell to Will Jacks, who once again delivered with the ball at a crucial juncture. Yet his dismissal barely slowed India’s momentum, as the foundation had already been emphatically laid.

The rest of the batting order sustained the onslaught with impactful cameos, keeping England firmly on the back foot, posting an overwhelming total. Jofra Archer endured a punishing spell, conceding 61 in his 4 while Jacks’ 2 for 40 stood out on an otherwise bruising day for the England bowlers.

Big Hits, Quick Runs, and Early Blows to Start England's Chase

Chasing 254, England burst out of the blocks as Jos Buttler finally found rhythm, striking fluently before falling late in the Powerplay. India removed three wickets, including the in-form Harry Brook who fell prey to an excellent catch from Axar Patel, yet England’s intent remained clear at 68 for 3 after six overs.

England, desperate for a hero, found one in Jacob Bethell, who led the counterattack by immediately targeting Varun Chakravarthy for three towering blows. Tom Banton joined the charge as England refused to retreat, unsettling India’s spinners and racing to 119 for 4 at the halfway mark in a fearless pursuit.

Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks then joined hands to reignite England’s chase, shifting momentum with fearless stroke-play. The pair stitched together a stunning 77-run stand off just 39 balls for the fifth wicket, dragging India briefly onto the back foot.

Just when England seemed in control, Axar Patel produced another decisive intervention, removing Jacks with a sharp relay catch that restored India’s grip. The breakthrough halted the surge, but Bethell refused to relent, carrying the fight deep.

The left-hander brought up a scintillating century, yet India’s death-bowling trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya unleashed relentless yorkers under pressure. Needing 30 off the final over, England ultimately fell seven runs short as India sealed their place in the final.
