India edged out England by seven runs in a high-scoring thriller at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the second semi-final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In a match that featured 34 sixes and an aggregate of nearly 500 runs, the celebrated cricketing gala in Mumbai also fetched in a record digital viewership.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah confirmed the staggering streaming viewership on his social media account just a day after the match. Notably, the cricket administrator confirmed the same just a few days after claiming that the tournament as a whole has received more than 500 million views in India.

India vs England semifinal gets over 65 million views

On March 6, ICC Chairman Jay Shah took to social media and made a huge announcement regarding the viewership of India vs England semifinal of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from the day before.

The cricket administrator confirmed that at one stage of the match, as many as 65.2 million viewers streamed into JioHotstar for live access. Jay Shah confirmed that the concurrent viewership was the highest for “any live event” across the world, thus demonstrating the “unparalleled capacity of marquee global Cricket to aggregate Indian fans” as well as the efforts of his ICC team.

The ex-BCCI secretary stated that his ICC team as well as JioHotstar have been actively recruiting and “engaging with fans” at a global scale to set new benchmarks for the game.

Viewership madness grips T20 World Cup 2026

Earlier this week, Jay Shah also stated that the 2026 T20 World Cup overall has garnered more than 500 million views, the highest ever for any single edition of the tournament.

He also congratulated JioHotstar for hitting a peak of 60.5 million viewership at one stage before the commencement of the knockout stage. He expressed his admiration towards Indian fans for constantly showing up and showering “immeasurable love” for ICC events.

India vs England semifinal: As it happened

The viewers streaming into the JioHotstar app were entertained to the fullest as India batted first and mounted a colossal 253-7 from 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the early onslaught for India with his breathtaking 42-ball 89. Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma also slapped electrifying six-laden cameos in the high-scoring innings.

In response, England lost three early wickets in the powerplay, but a fighting century from Jacob Bethell kept them in the hunt. Bethell smeared 105 runs off just 48 balls with eight boundaries and seven sixes to ease up the equation for his side, before Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya delivered some tight overs at the death.

India eventually secured a thrilling seven-run win to set a date with New Zealand in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
