Five-time champions Mumbai Indians had a decent run in the IPL 2025, as they played the qualifier 2 in the competition. In other words, MI was the third-best team of the competition after Punjab Kings and the eventual champions, RCB. 

However, considering they have been the joint-most successful IPL franchise alongside arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings, the Mumbai Indians' failure to clinch the title in five consecutive seasons is surprising, to say the least.

• Will Jacks played a crucial role for his side, powering England to the semifinal of the competition. He finished the tournament with 226 runs besides scalping nine wickets with his handy off-spin. 
• Given that Mitchell Santner struggled to pick wickets in the T20 World Cup, Will Jacks might play as MI's first-choice spin all-rounder in the IPL 2026. His explosive batting and disciplined bowling make him a valuable asset for the Mumbai franchise. 
• Apart from ensuring fitting finishes for his side, Jacks can be a genuine match-winner on spin-friendly tracks. So, he is definitely one of the X-factors from the MI IPL 2026 squad to watch out for in the tournament.

2. Sherfane Rutherford

• Left-handed batter Sherfane Rutherford became a part of the MI IPL squad as the franchise traded him from the Gujarat Titans for INR 2.6 crore before the auction. 
• While Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya form a robust middle-order, the Mumbai Indians lacked someone with raw power who could play as their middle overs enforcer in the IPL 2025. 
• So, MI's batting unit was further strengthened with the signing of Rutherford, who can torment the bowling attacks in the middle and death overs. As evidenced by the above stats, Rutherford registered a magnificent strike rate of 179.41 in the T20 World Cup 2026. 
• The Mumbai Indians can use him as a designated spin-hitter against specific teams, as he has an incredible strike rate of 159.3 against left-arm spin, an evident grey area for Suryakumar and Pandya over the years. 
• Added to that, Rutherford's power-hitting prowess has solidified MI's finishing department as they aim to break their title jinx in the IPL 2026. 

3. Corbin Bosch

• South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch became a part of the MI IPL squad when the franchise picked him as an injury replacement for Lizaad Williams.
