Mumbai Indians IPL Auction Review
Mumbai Indians were one of the less active franchises in the IPL 2026 auction late last year. The MI management raised bids for only 10 players, and rightfully managed to acquire five cricketers to fill their remaining five slots.
The franchise roped in senior South Africa stumper Quinton de Kock, who previously spent three seasons with Mumbai Indians from 2019 till 2021. The five-time winners also attracted four uncapped cricketers in the form of Vidarbha top-order batter Danish Malewar, Bihar fast bowler Mohammed Izhar, Mumbai all-rounder Atharva Ankolekar and Delhi’s rising star Mayank Rawat.
Franchise zealots Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and captain Hardik Pandya were all retained by the team’s top brass last year following the conclusion of the IPL 2025 season.
During the player exchange window, the Mumbai Indians franchise traded in Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Punjab-based leg-spinner Mayank Markande from the KKR.
Their squad features an elite ensemble of all-rounders, with captain Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks all capable of making it to the playing XI as a batter or a bowler alone.
