The 5-time IPL winners sprung a surprise during the mini auction last year, as they played a punt and spent 14.2 crores each to sign two Indian youngsters, Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma. The franchise had a hefty purse heading into the IPL 2026 auction, but instead of spending it on experienced players, they took a gamble to sign the two rising stars.
This will be the first time both Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma will play in the IPL, and they will be under the astute leadership and guidance of the legendary MS Dhoni. Known for his wisdom about the game, one expects MSD to pass on his cricketing knowledge to the youngsters.
MS Dhoni's money advice to CSK's 14.2 crore signing
However, as per Prashant Veer, when he first met MS Dhoni, the discussion was not related to cricket, but rather a golden piece of life advice given by the veteran player. The player stated that MSD’s first advice was all about saving money, rather than tactics.
“Right now, we haven’t spoken much about cricket. He told me to save my money and not spend it unnecessarily,” Prashant said, as quoted by The Hindu.
Interestingly, the advice given by the former CSK captain to Prashant Veer is not surprising at all, since the legendary player believes in mentoring the youngsters, not only on the field, but off the field as well.

Normally, CSK’s IPL auction policy is simple- sign experienced players, and make superstars out of them. This has worked over the years as MSD was known for bringing out the best in everyone. However, in the last auction, the team had a different game plan.
They went ahead and signed two young guns for a hefty amount, and everyone is interested in knowing where Prashant Veer will bat for CSK. The youngster has revealed the answer as well.
“I can bat in any situation. Just as long as I don’t have to open, I will do it anywhere else.
With the openers fixed, CSK could utilise the player in the middle-order, more like a finisher alongside MSD.
Another CSK young-gun hails MS Dhoni
Apart from Prashant Veer, the Yellow Army went all the way to secure the signing of Kartik Sharma for a whopping 14.2 crores. There is an anticipation surrounding Kartik Sharma, and ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the 19-year-old revealed what he wants to learn from MSD in the upcoming season.
“I want to learn how to finish games and good game planning. The training setup was very good. I haven’t had such practice before this — great ground (CSK High Performance Centre) and very good wickets.”
Just like Prashant, Kartik Sharma is an exciting young talent and CSK hope he delivers the goods for the team in IPL 2026.
In 12 T20 matches, he has smacked 334 runs, but most importantly, he has struck them at 162.92, as the team is aiming to develop him as MS Dhoni’s successor at number 6 or 7.
