In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday, South Africa’s all-rounder Corbin Bosch showed great energy and passion after dismissing Sherfane Rutherford. Notably, he celebrated in an aggressive and excited manner, which showed how important the wicket was for his team.

At the start of the WI vs SA match, South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, things did not go well in the beginning. South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj gave away 17 runs in the first over. After that, Marco Jansen was also hit for 12 runs by Brandon King and Shai Hope.

South Africa make strong comeback

However, South Africa quickly made a strong comeback. Kagiso Rabada removed captain Shai Hope for 16 runs off 6 balls, which triggered a collapse. Soon after, Rabada dismissed Shimron Hetmyer for just 2 runs off 3 balls in the same over.

Then Lungi Ngidi joined the wicket-taking effort. He dismissed Brandon King and later Roston Chase for 2 runs. Consequently, South Africa’s fast bowlers ripped through the West Indies top order.

It is important to note that South Africa took 4 wickets for only 14 runs in 12 balls. As a result, West Indies suddenly collapsed to 43/4.

Despite the collapse, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford tried to rebuild the innings. They added a few runs in the final overs of the powerplay, taking the score to 52/4. Therefore, West Indies managed to slow down the damage slightly.

Corbin Bosch’s aggressive sendoff

In the 7th over, Corbin Bosch was brought into the attack. On the second ball of the over, Sherfane Rutherford smashed him for a six. However, Bosch bounced back immediately on the very next delivery. Rutherford again tried to play a pull shot, but this time he mistimed it.

Corbin Bosch had bowled slightly outside the off stump, and the ball took a top edge. Quinton de Kock comfortably caught it behind the stumps.

As a result, West Indies lost their fifth wicket at just 60 runs. Bosch then celebrated aggressively and was heard shouting an abusive sendoff in the heat of the moment.

South Africa take full control against West Indies

After that wicket, South Africa completely dominated the match. With half the West Indies side back in the pavilion, the Caribbean team struggled to recover. At the time of writing, West Indies were 109/7 in 14 overs, clearly under heavy pressure.

Notably, this match is highly significant in the Super 8 standings. A win for the West Indies would move them to four points in the group and bring them closer to a place in the semi-finals. Conversely, if South Africa secure victory in this clash, they would almost have one foot in the semi-finals.
