IND vs SL Test- (Source: AFP)
Sri Lanka have pulled off a great turnaround in the ongoing 1st Test against Sri Lanka. The Island Nation were on the verge of an innings defeat, but collective efforts in the latter half of the match have now put them in a position to snatch a win out of the jaws of defeat.
Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka are 141/4 and require 231 runs to win. Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and batter Sonal Dinusha’s fifties have put the hosts in a comfortable position.
Sri Lanka Fight Back Against India
Shedding light on the match, India, batting first, put 462 runs on the board courtesy of Devdutt Padikkal’s 167-run knock. In reply, Sri Lanka were 90/5, which is when it was assumed that the Test match would end on Day 3 itself.

However, Sonal Dinusha’s century and Niroshan Dickwella’s 80-run knock helped the Island Nation put 284 runs on the board. The host nation again fought back, and this time the bowlers got the better of Indian batters, and the visitors tumbled for just 193 runs in the 2nd innings.
Now, in the last innings of the match, Sri Lanka lost four early wickets, but a 95-run stand for the 5th wicket has brought them back in the hunt. The hosts have a chance to do the unthinkable and upset India.
Fans are curious about the last time Lanka beat India in a Test match, and this article will shed light on that.
When Was The Last Time Sri Lanka Beat India In Tests?
Notably, it has been 11 years since Sri Lanka last beat India in a Test match. It was 2015 when India toured the Island Nation for a three-match Test series. Interestingly, it was the first Test of the series and that too at the Galle International Stadium.
Dinesh Chandimal was the hero of that match. Shedding light on the 2015 match, Sri Lanka were in a similar stage, as they trailed for most of the match.
The hosts, batting first, tumbled for just 183 runs. Sadly, this time around Sri Lanka will miss Dinesh Chandimal because the right-handed batter suffered a concussion and was ruled out of the ongoing match.
In reply, India scored 375 courtesy of centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and then captain Virat Kohli. However, things turned in the 2nd innings when the hosts came to bat again.
Dinesh Chandimal scored an unbeaten 162, and the Dhananjaya de Silva-led side put 367 runs on the board, setting up a target of 176. However, India failed to chase down a small total and collapsed for just 112 runs. Rangana Herath was the star with the ball and picked up a 7 wicket-haul.
Sri Lanka Went Onto Lose The Series
Despite the win in the 1st Test, they failed to get the momentum going and India bounced back to win the remaining two matches. However, the ongoing series is just a 2-Test match series and a win in the 1st Test would result in India failing to clinch a Test series in the Island Nation since 2010.
Notably, it was 2010 the last time India and Sri Lanka drew a series and we have to further go back to 2008 when Sri Lanka beat India in a Test series.
