The 1st Test between India and Sri Lanka has gone on to the 5th day, and the match can still swing into Sri Lanka’s favour. Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha’s fifties ignited hope, but Ravindra Jadeja brought India back with a crucial breakthrough. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal also helped India with a wicket but without bowling a single over.
Sri Lanka were five wickets down in the first session of Day 5. Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella were the last-standing batting pair. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal used his sledging skills to get Dickwella out.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Helps India With Important Breakthrough With Sledging
The incident occurred in the 60st over of the match when Prasidh Krishna came to attack. Jaiswal was standing at the square leg when he approached Dickwella and provoked him to take the aggressive route.
In reply, Niroshan Dickwella hit back at Jaiswal and told him to take him in the IPL. Jaiswal didn’t shy away and continued the sledging.
Jaiswal further provoked Dickwella and told him to hit a six in the leg-side, and he will definitely take the Sri Lanka star in the IPL. It did wonders because in the very next delivery Dickwella got out and returned to the pavillion.

Prasidh Krishna Strikes But India Players Celebrate With Yashasvi Jaiswal
On the last ball of the 60th over, Prasidh Krishna bowled a half-pitched delivery and Dickwella made massive room for himself to hit the shot on the off-side. Eventually, he cramped for room and produced a massive outside edge, and Rishabh Pant made no mistake behind the stumps.

Prasidh Krishna was stunned because most of the Indian players raced to Yashasvi Jaiswal to celebrate the wicket with him. It was the India opener’s efforts that got the crucial wicket and put India back in the lead.
It was special for Yashasvi Jaiswal because he had a poor Test with the bat but still is making efforts in the field and with other tactics such as sledging to contribute in the ongoing match. Talking about Jaiswal's efforts with the bat, then he scored 32 runs in the first innings and a three-ball duck.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Going Through A Difficult Phase In Tests
Yashasvi Jaiswal is struggling to find a place across three formats and Test is the only format where he has cemented his place. Jaiswal has got off to a decent start to his red-ball career, but is out of form lately.
Talking about 2026, Jaiswal has scored just 56 runs across three innings. Notably, he averages just 18.66 and is still looking for a fifty. With each Test, there is a growing competition and Jaiswal need to return to form in the 2nd Test to prove his mettle in Tests.
