On Sunday, August 16, the 6th edition of the Hundred concluded with Manchester Super Giants lifting the prestigious title. The Jos Buttler-led side beat Trent Rockets in the final at Lord’s to win the first title under the new owners.

Previously, Manchester reached the final twice in 2022 and 2023 but failed to cross the finishing line. It was a special moment for the Goenka group because they won their first cricket title under the Super Giants banner.

Manchester Super Giants give Sanjiv Goenka his maiden franchise title

Manchester Super Giants' win will also have a special impact on Lucknow Super Giants because Sanjiv Goenka would love his IPL side to have a similar influence and follow in the footsteps of Super Giants’ sister franchise in England.

Since preparations for IPL 2027 are in full swing, it won’t be a surprise to see MSG’s impact on LSG for the upcoming edition. Therefore, this article will look at 3 Things LSG Might Change For IPL 2027 following Manchester Super Giants’ The Hundred Win.

1. Look To Trade In Jos Buttler For IPL 2027

Lucknow Super Giants had a terrible IPL 2026 and finished last on the table. Following the disastrous season, Rishabh Pant left captaincy and even returned to Delhi Capitals. So, at present, the Super Giants management have a lot of work to do ahead of IPL 2027.

Bringing in Jos Buttler to LSG could be one of the major tasks. The Goenka group is heavily impressed by the former England captain, as he led Manchester to their maiden Hundred title.

At present, Jos Buttler is with the Gujarat Titans, and LSG can look to trade him for IPL 2027. One prominent option is offering Nicholas Pooran to the Titans. Buttler is earning 15.75 crores, while Nicholas Pooran is struggling despite taking 21 crores per year from the Super Giants.

Talking about Nicholas Pooran, he scored just 234 runs in 14 innings and averaged just 18.00 in IPL 2026. Now, trading Pooran at Buttler’s salary would result in a financial loss for the Super Giants, but they would be happy with that.

The deal is unlikely to go forward, considering the Giants might not agree, looking at Pooran’s form, but Lucknow Super Giants will definitely be mulling the idea to bring in Jos Buttler to join their squad.

2. Justin Langer Might Save His Job

After IPL 2026, there were murmurs that Justin Langer might be relieved of his duties as LSG’s head coach after the then Rishabh Pant-led side finished 10th on the table. Several reports suggested that the hunt for the next coach also began, but it seems that the former Australia player has saved his job.

Justin Langer has been associated with Lucknow Super Giants post IPL 2023. In his 3 seasons as head coach, LSG have finished 7th twice and 10th in IPL 2026.

There is every valid reason for the Super Giants to look forward, but since he was also Manchester Super Giants’ head coach, it seems that the Goenka group will present him with one more season to prove his mettle before the mega-auction.

3. Setback for India Seamers

The biggest positive for Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred 2026 was Josh Tongue. The right-arm seamer took 14 wickets in 10 innings and was one of the best performers in the recently concluded season.

Tongue is most likely to register for the IPL 2027 auction, and the Super Giants will definitely break the bank to avail Josh Tongue’s services. Notably, LSG are already a pace-heavy group. They have Anrich Nortje, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Arjun Tendulkar, Avesh Khan, and Akash Singh.

The Indian seamers are already struggling for a place in the team, and in case Tongue comes in, he will be a sure-shot starter, meaning that one of the Indian seamers will have to make way to the bench so that Josh Tongue can feature in the playing XI.
