Riding on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s remarkable knock of 97 in just 29 balls, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the Eliminator 1 of the ongoing IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on May 27.

With the win, Riyan Parag-led RR booked a spot in the Qualifier 2 against the Gujarat Titans, which is scheduled to be played at the same ground on May 29.

Thus, once again, all eyes will be on the teenage prodigy, who is in the form of his life. That being said, in this article, take a look at Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record against his fresh opponent, the Gujarat Titans, in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Notably, the teenage prodigy hammered his maiden IPL century against the same Gujarat-based franchise, a 100 off just 35 balls, at 14 years and 32 days old, back in IPL 2025.

Thus, Sooryavanshi has had an unprecedented record against the Gujarat Titans.

Once again, the 15-year-old batter from Bihar has remarkable numbers playing at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.

Having played only two matches at the Mullanpur Stadium, Vaibhav has scored a 16-ball 43 and a 29-ball 97, with the latter coming in the Eliminator 1 of the IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sooryavanshi’s most notable performances against GT

Playing his first-ever season in 2025, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 1st IPL century came against Gujarat Titans on April 28, 2025. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, he smashed 101 runs off just 38 balls, including 11 sixes and 7 fours.

His historic century, which he brought up in just 35 deliveries, made him the youngest player ever to score an IPL century at 14 years and 32 days old, and the fastest by an Indian in the tournament's history.

Undoubtedly, this has been and will likely remain one of his most notable performances, not only against GT but also in the IPL.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record vs Kagiso Rabada before IPL 2026 Qualifier 2

Although Sooryavanshi has had a stainless record against almost all bowlers in the IPL, there are certain deliveries that have troubled him consistently. One of the biggest challenges for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi when he takes on Gujarat Titans will be against South African pacer Kagiso Rabada.

Hence, let's explore the star RR batter’s form against one of GT’s best bowlers this season, veteran Kagiso Rabada.

As seen in the above stats, even this pace ace has fallen prey to the 15-year-old boss baby. Sooryavanshi has played 14 balls bowled by Rabada in IPL 2026, out of which 4 have been sent out of the boundary, including 2 fours and 2 sixes. So far, he has had a strike rate of 178.6 against Kagiso.

Weaknesses Gujarat Titans can explore to halt the Sooryavanshi storm

The star RR batter has been in phenomenal form in the IPL 2026. The ‘kid’ has shown no mercy to premium fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Trent Bolt and many more.

However, let’s now dive into the weaknesses Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has that GT captain Shubman Gill and the bowlers could keep in mind coming into the high-octane clash.

1) High-pace bodyline short balls

Sooryavanshi’s primary vulnerability to high-pace short balls stems from his aggressive "double down" bat swing, which becomes difficult to control at extreme velocity.

Because his swing naturally relies on an angled, across-the-line motion and generates explosive power, facing high-pace short deliveries or quick bouncers exposes him.

2) Deliveries on the middle stump

In the IPL 2026, deliveries on this line and length have brought him only 12 runs off 10 balls at a strike rate of 120, with a 60% dot-ball rate. If bowlers could narrow that down, the most useful data point emerges: middle stump on a good length produced only 1 run off 6 balls and a dismissal.

3) Hard, good length

Bowlers have found success by tucking the ball right into his ribs on a good length. Data showcases the deliveries on the middle stump, on a good length, yielded very few runs, with a high dot-ball rate for Sooryavanshi.

Tighter channels, particularly good-length deliveries on the middle stump or full-length in-swinging yorkers, tend to restrict his scoring and expose his unique high backswing.

4) Blackhole yorkers

Well-executed yorkers, not outside off and definitely not fuller balls. Or lower full tosses can be used to restrict him. In IPL 2026, veteran bowlers like Pat Cummins and Arshdeep Singh attempted to use yorkers to crowd his base and deny him room to extend his arms.

He once even fell to Kyle Jamieson’s in-swinging yorker. However, Vaibhav’s ability to generate leverage means that even a minor misfire could be brutally punished.

Certainly, Vaibhav’s wicket can push the Rajasthan Royals on the back foot, revealing the less effective middle-order. On the other hand, if the Gujarat Titans fail to get him out early, it could be all over for the Shubman Gill-led team and shatter their hopes of reaching the IPL 2026 final.
