The ever-surging Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old from Rajasthan Royals, is now a phenomenon in T20 cricket. The Bihar-born youngster has changed the way one looks at the shortest format of the game, and there's excitement and anticipation every time he comes to the crease.
Just a few hours earlier, during the May 27 IPL Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sooryavanshi almost broke a historic IPL record dominated by Chris Gayle. The young kid smashed a 29-ball 97, only to miss out on a 29-ball hundred and breaking Gayle's 30-ball century record.
The RR Benefit And Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Rise
Nevertheless, Sooryavanshi has broken multiple records on his way to slowly building a legacy at this very young age. Obviously, Rajasthan Royals have benefited from Sooryavanshi's rise, and he is one of the primary contributors behind the mammoth chunk of runs RR has generated this IPL season.
While Sooryavanshi has flawlessly dominated the cricketing arena, Rajasthan Royals were the ones who dominated the auction table to bag him and identify the young talent early before his rise.

Which Teams Bid On Vaibhav In IPL 2025 Mega Auction?
While it may sound surprising, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had only one bidder in the mega auction besides Rajasthan Royals. Coming from a humble background and a humble state, Sooryavanshi was listed at a base price of INR 30 lakhs in the IPL 2025 auction as teams were rebuilding their core.
Delhi Capitals, surprisingly, were the first to bid on Sooryavanshi. Soon after, Rajasthan Royals joined the bidding, and the bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals continued until Hemang Badani & Co. secured him for INR 1.10 crore.
DC Dropped The Paddle
Delhi eventually dropped out as Rajasthan Royals believed the young Sooryavanshi could be a mammoth addition to their squad after retaining Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Sandeep Sharma.
Though Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was not amongst the most expensive players on the list, he is certainly now one of the most valuable players in the tournament. In fact, Sooryavanshi was fifth from the bottom in terms of the money RR spent on buying each player in the IPL 2025 auction.
For the unaware, Rajasthan spent a total of INR 40.70 crore in the auction while acquiring 20 players, amongst which 14 were Indian and six were overseas players.
Sooryavanshi's Rise Since IPL 2025
Nevertheless, in IPL 2025, Sooryavanshi didn't get as many chances as he has this season. He featured in seven matches but still made his mark in those games with a 37-ball century and quickfire knocks of 15-ball 40 and 33-ball 57, among others, scoring 252 runs in the season at an average of 36.00.
After that, Sooryavanshi featured in several Under-19 games against England and Australia and also performed in the Under-19 Asia Cup in 2025, where he amassed 261 runs from five matches. In the Under-19 World Cup 2026 too, Sooryavanshi managed to score a total of 439 runs from seven innings while boasting a strike rate of 169.50.
Nevertheless, his heroics in IPL 2026 have been something many veteran players would be jealous of. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi now has the most sixes in a T20 tournament, breaking Chris Gayle's record.
He also acquired the Orange Cap on the leaderboard by smashing 12 sixes in the IPL Eliminator. Sooryavanshi currently also has the highest strike rate in IPL 2026 at 242.85 from 15 matches, as he has amassed four half-centuries and one century in the process at an average of 45.33.
