Lucknow Super Giants take on a high-flying Chennai Super Kings in the match number 59 of the ongoing IPL 2026 at the Ekana Stadium. Both teams have made significant changes to their playing 11s, with pacer Akash Singh receiving his maiden opportunity in the season.
Playing his first game in the IPL 2026, the LSG pacer took no time to announce himself. He bowled three overs in the power play, sweeping both the CSK openers, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
That being said, in this article, let’s closely explore who Akash Singh is.
Meet LSG pacer Akash Singh and his diverse IPL portfolio
A left-arm medium-fast bowler whose primary skillset revolves around swinging the new ball and generating movement off the seam, Akash Singh is not a new name in the Indian Premier League set-up.
Born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Singh first gained national attention as a core member of the India Under-19 squad that reached the final of the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup. In the IPL, apart from the LSG, he has been a part of multiple franchises, including the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

During the 2023 season with the Chennai Super Kings, he played 6 matches and took 5 wickets. Ahead of the 2025 season, the Lucknow Super Giants acquired him for his base price of ₹30 Lakh.
He made 3 appearances during the 2025 campaign, claiming 4 wickets, with his best performance being 2/30 against the Punjab Kings. Acknowledging his utility as a domestic left-arm pace option, LSG officially retained him at his ₹30 Lakh salary ahead of the 2026 season.
Akash Singh’s brawl in the U-19 World Cup
Interestingly, the LSG pacer was among the five players who were sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for brawling in the immediate aftermath of Bangladesh’s victory over India in the under-19 World Cup final in South Africa.
Singh, along with Ravi Bishnoi, was fined by the ICC for violating Article 2.21, which deals with bringing the game into disrepute.
Apart from that, Singh was a bowler for India in the tournament, helping the team reach the final as runners-up. He took 7 wickets during the tournament, often breaking crucial partnerships with his ability to swing the new ball. His best performance was 3-12 against Bangladesh U-19.
Singh’s love for animated celebrations
In the ongoing match, the 24-year-old left-arm medium pacer picked up 3 wickets for 26 runs in four overs. He opened his wicket account by dismissing CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on the fifth ball of his second over and then got rid of Sanju Samson (20) and Urvil Patel as well in his next two overs.
Notably, Singh celebrated all three scalps with the famous ‘parchi celebration’. After taking all three matches in his first match of IPL 2026, Akash flashed a note which read, " #Akki on fire – Akash knows how to take wickets in T20 game".

However, this was not the first time that Akash drew attention for his celebration.
In the IPL 2025 clash against the Gujarat Titans, Digvesh Rathi did not feature for the Lucknow Super Giants, but his trademark celebration still made an appearance at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Akash Singh channelled his teammate's iconic move after taking the key wicket of Jos Buttler during LSG’s defence of a mammoth 235-run total.
Notably, Rathi was handed a one-match ban for breaching the IPL 2025 Code of Conduct after a heated exchange with SunRisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma.
