2024 Déjà Vu In Litton Das' Bat As Bangladesh Crisis Man Resurrects BAN vs PAK Test

History repeated itself, and in the most Litton Das way possible. After Bangladesh slipped to 106 for 4 on Day 1 of the second Test against Pakistan, the scorecard almost had a familiar look from two years back.

The top order faltered, and the middle order followed. It was once again the responsibility of Litton Das to hold things together. Das, with a composed 126, did exactly that to drag Bangladesh to 278, a total that will give their bowlers something to work with.

This mammoth knock by Das was a reflection of a past rescue act back in September 2024 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. It was the day when Das pulled off one of Bangladesh's greatest Test innings to help his team complete a historic series win in Pakistan.

The Early Bangladesh Collapse In Rawalpindi

Bangladesh started their first innings in the 2024 Rawalpindi Test in catastrophic fashion. Khurram Shehzad and Mir Hamza ripped through the top order with the new ball and swung it relentlessly as six wickets fell in just 34 balls in the first hour.

The scoreboard read 26 for 6, and Bangladesh's lowest-ever Test total of 43 was suddenly under threat. As things progressed, Pakistan were in complete control, and Bangladesh looked finished.

Litton Das And Mehidy Play Resistance To Block Pakistan’s Hopes

Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz walked to the crease with their team in ruins. However, they produced one of the greatest rearguard partnerships in Bangladesh cricket. The two batters dug in and survived until lunch without further loss, and after the break, Litton shifted gears as the team was still trailing Pakistan by nearly 200 runs.

Das accelerated quickly, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz was no passenger either. He reached his eighth Test half-century and matched Litton pull for pull when Khurram Shehzad turned to the short ball. The seventh-wicket stand was worth 165 runs, which turned the match on its head.

Litton’s Heroic Century Seals Bangladesh’s Historic Test Win

Shehzad eventually outfoxed Mehidy Hasan Miraz and later dismissed Taskin Ahmed to complete a five-wicket haul. However, with Bangladesh at 193 for 8, Litton was joined by Hasan Mahmud at number 10.

It was yet another act of stubborn resistance that lasted more than two hours. Litton Das farmed the strike while protecting Mahmud and steadily inched toward three figures. Das reached his century with solid resilience but finally fell for 138 runs, holing out at long-on while attempting to take on Salman Ali Agha.

Nevertheless, the heroic stand helped Bangladesh post 262, trimming Pakistan's first-innings lead to just 12 runs. That 262 proved to be more than enough as Bangladesh chased down 185 in the fourth innings to win by six wickets and clinch the series 2-0.

That was their first-ever series victory on Pakistani soil, and Litton's 138 and Mehidy's 78 were the innings that made it possible. Now, looking at things in 2026, Litton Das has once again done the same thing for his country, while Pakistan would like to erase the 278-run trail as quickly as possible.
