Virat Kohli added another remarkable achievement to his illustrious career during the 2nd ODI between India and England at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Thursday.
The former India captain surpassed Rahul Dravid to become the Indian batter with the most international runs scored in England across all formats.
Batting first, India got off to a solid start before opener Shubman Gill was dismissed for 31 off 30 balls in the 8th over. With India needing stability, Virat Kohli walked in at no 3 carrying plenty of expectations.

Heading into the match, Kohli required just four runs to surpass Rahul Dravid's tally of 2,645 international runs in England.
Notably, the elegant right-handed batter comfortably crossed the landmark to become India's highest run-scorer in England across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
It is important to note that the achievement places Kohli ahead of two of India's greatest batting legends, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

Cardiff holds special memories for Virat Kohli
Interestingly, Cardiff has been a memorable venue for Kohli throughout his ODI career. His only ODI century in England came at this very ground on September 16, 2011.
Back then, the young batting sensation smashed a brilliant 107 off just 93 deliveries while batting at No. 4.
Although India eventually lost the rain-affected match by six wickets, Kohli's innings stood out. The knock also remains unique because he was dismissed hit wicket, the only such dismissal of his ODI career.
Since that memorable century, Kohli has registered scores of 31, 58*, and 0 in ODIs at Cardiff. Returning to the venue after nearly 12 years, he had another opportunity to end his long wait for a second ODI century in England.
Virat Kohli arrives in excellent form
Moreover, Virat Kohli entered the IND vs ENG series with plenty of confidence. During IPL 2026, he enjoyed another outstanding campaign, scoring 675 runs in 16 innings to finish among the leading contenders for the Orange Cap.
Although he missed the ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury suffered during the IPL final, the veteran batter had earlier impressed against New Zealand. In that three-match ODI series, Kohli amassed 240 runs at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 105.26.
Therefore, expectations were naturally high as he returned to action against England. With his form looking promising, Kohli will now aim to convert his start into a big score as a ton at Cardiff would end his 15-year wait for an ODI hundred in England.
At the time of writing, Kohli is batting fluently at 38*, guiding India after Gill's early dismissal. India are currently at 107/2 in 17 overs, with the experienced batter looking settled at the crease.
