When people talk about the best IPL pacers in history, the first names that come to everyone’s minds are Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, and Dwayne Bravo. However, there is another pacer who slips under the radar but has been equally effective as the other names mentioned here.

Rajasthan Royals pacer Sandeep Sharma has been an underrated bowler in the IPL. He has a terrific record against the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and has often delivered the goods when his team needed him the most.

However, despite not getting the recognition that he deserves, Sandeep has quietly gone about his business in the IPL, and on Friday against the RCB side, the right-arm pacer created history, and entered a special group of IPL pacers.

150 IPL wickets for Sandeep Sharma

Rajat Patidar, the RCB captain, was going hammer and tong, and RR desperately needed to see him back to the pavilion. This is when Sandeep raised his hands as he got rid of the dangerous batter, and became just the sixth pacer to enter a special wicket-taking club.

Patidar’s scalp was Sandeep’s 150th wicket in the IPL, and he became the sixth pacer to record this feat, with the first five names being Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Dwayne Bravo, Lasith Malinga, and Harshal Patel.

The Indian pacer has played for multiple IPL franchises, and has performed extraordinarily well for almost all as he creates history with the wicket of the RCB skipper at a crucial juncture of the match.

Most IPL wickets by a pacer

• RCB pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar sits at top of the pile, with 202 wickets. In fact, he is the only pacer with more than 200 wickets in the IPL.
• Mumbai Indians pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, and CSK great, Dwayne Bravo have 183 wickets to their name, and another MI great, Lasith Malinga, also occupies the spot with 170 scalps.
• Harshal Patel sits at 4th with 151 wickets, and now, Sandeep Sharma has also joined the elite list.

Sandeep Sharma's IPL journey at a glance

Having made his IPL debut in 2013, Sandeep has become one of the best bowlers in the IPL through sheer determination and an impeccable skill set. 

He rose to prominence through his performances in the 2012 Under-19 World Cup, and was immediately fast-tracked in the IPL as Punjab Kings offered him a contract.

His breakthrough season came during the 2017 IPL, where he scalped 17 wickets, and was crucial for his iPL side. The right-arm pacer has played 141 IPL games and has picked up 150 wickets, with an average of 27.99, and an economy of 8.08.

In recent years, his best IPL season came during the 2024 campaign, when the speedster grabbed 13 wickets, and was crucial for his side. At his lowest, RR showed trust in his ability, and the former Under-19 side has delivered the goods.
