The Mumbai Indians franchise started off the IPL 2026 season with an emphatic six-wicket win over the KKR. However, the Hardik Pandya-led side failed to sustain its early momentum, as the team has since suffered humiliating defeats against the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in successive games.

Gearing up to take on defending champions RCB in match number 20 of the tournament, the franchise has now been boosted by a potential return of a star overseas all-rounder, none other than New Zealand national skipper and seasoned all-rounder Mitchell Santner.

Mitchell Santner fit to play RCB match: Report

New Zealand captain and star all-rounder Mitchell Santner has reportedly attained full recovery and is set to play Mumbai Indians’ upcoming IPL 2026 match against the RCB. While the cricketer was relatively late in joining the Mumbai Indians squad in India owing to his injury, he has also missed his team’s away fixtures against the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals ever since his arrival to the country.

As per a Times of India report, Mitchell Santner has now fully recovered and he recently bowled for around 30 to 45 minutes during a Mumbai Indians training session at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, April 10. The cricketer also committed to some fielding practice on the occasion.

Moreover, the 34-year-old also bowled during a training session a day before at the Cricket Club of India. With Mumbai Indians finding themselves on an unfortunate trail of two successive defeats, Santner’s presence in the playing XI would certainly boost the team’s morale going ahead in the IPL 2026 season.

Will Jacks yet to join Mumbai Indians camp

The report also indicated that England’s batting all-rounder is yet to join the Mumbai Indians camp for IPL 2026 in India. As confirmed by head coach Mahela Jayawardene late last month, Jacks had requested for a “slightly extended time” off the field for personal reasons.

As of now, it remains to be seen at what stage of the IPL 2026 will the England all-rounder link up with the Mumbai Indians squad and make his much-anticipated season debut.

Mumbai Indians to face RCB in must-win game

Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians franchise will be taking on defending champions RCB in match number 20 of the IPL 2026 season on Sunday, April 12. The match will be hosted by the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.

The match marks a must-win one for the Mumbai Indians, considering the franchise is currently ranked number eight on the 10-team points table. Another defeat at this stage of the tournament will undeniably put additional pressure on the team going ahead in the competition.

After winning their opening match against KKR in a tall chase off 221, the franchise has since suffered humiliating defeats against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
