Mitchell Marsh is enjoying the best T20 run of his career in 2026. The Australian star player continued his outstanding form for Sunrisers Leeds in the 27th match of The Hundred 2026 against Welsh Fire on August 9.
He led from the front and made 50 runs off 34 balls at a strike-rate of 147.06 as his side posted 201/4 and secured a convincing 71-run victory. In the process, Marsh entered the league of the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers for a special batting record.
Mitchell Marsh Breaches 1500 T20 Runs, Enters Elite Kohli-De Villiers Club
Mitchell Marsh took his tally of T20 runs beyond 1500 in 2026 during his side's The Hundred encounter against Welsh Fire. He became the first Australian batter to score more than 1500 T20 runs in a calendar year, breaking the previous record set by Tim David and Travis Head.
It is vital to note that Marsh has made 1502 runs from 35 matches this year at an average of 44.17 and a strike rate close to 160, with two centuries and 11 fifties. His runs have come across playing for Australia, the BBL with Perth Scorchers, the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants and The Hundred with Sunrisers Leeds.
Earlier, Tim David held the record for most T20 runs in a calendar year among Australians, having scored 1461 runs in 2022. Travis Head held the second position on the list with 1442 runs in 2024.
His achievement put him on the elite list of some of the biggest names in T20 cricket. This includes Virat Kohli, who scored 1614 runs in 2016, and AB de Villiers, who struck 1580 runs in 2019.
Overall, Nicholas Pooran holds the record for the most T20 runs in a calendar year. He hammered 2331 runs across 76 matches back in 2024.

Can Mitchell Marsh Break All-Time Batting Record In The Hundred?
Mitchell Marsh is also closing in on another major milestone. His performances for Sunrisers Leeds have put him just 51 runs away from breaking the record for most runs in a single edition of the Men’s Hundred.
The current record belongs to James Vince, who scored 424 runs for Southern Brave in 2024. Jos Buttler follows with 391 runs for Manchester Originals in 2023, while Dawid Malan made 377 for Trent Rockets in 2022.
Marsh has already scored 374 runs in seven innings in the 2026 season at an average of 53.42 and a strike rate of 173.14.

In recent years, Mitchell Marsh has found greater stability with the bat and developed into a dangerous top-order hitter.
Across his T20 career, Marsh has scored 7033 runs at an average of 34.64 and a strike rate of 141.48. He has increasingly focused on his batting and has become a valuable opener in major franchise competitions.
For Perth Scorchers in BBL 2026, Marsh has scored 360 runs in 12 innings at an average of 30.00 and a strike rate of 132.35.
His IPL record has also been impressive. For Lucknow Super Giants, Marsh has made 1,190 runs at an average of 45.76 and a strike rate of 163.46, including two centuries and nine fifties. In IPL 2026, he made 563 runs in 13 innings at an average of 43.30 and a strike rate of 163.18.
